What to do with my Hyundai i30's gearbox?

I have a 2015 Hyundai i30 diesel 1.6 (90k on the clock). It has been very reliable and I've spent very little money on it outside services etc.

Now, when I am changing gear from third to fourth, I am getting a slight grinding noise and also resistance. I spoke to my mechanic, and he does not want to touch the gears and recommended to go through Hyundai to do this.

He also advised it may be time to do the clutch while they're doing the synchromesh. Google also advises to do the flywheel while there. What would your opinion be? Should I spend the money now to replace the car or these parts? I have been avoiding those gear changes but I'm now getting some resistance between fifth and sixth as well.

What's up with my Insignia's gearbox?

I bought my Vauxhall Insignia Estate 1.6-litre diesel from Perrys Main Vauxhall Dealers in Huddersfield in July 2021 which was first registered in September 2016. To date, it has recorded 41,000 miles approximately on its odometer with two previous owners.

I had its annual service and MOT carried out a local garage with an excellent reputation in July 2023 in July 2024 which included supplying new front discs, pads and offside callipers which was completed and paid for on 8/7/24.

Shortly afterwards the clutch burnt out and had to be supplied and fitted along with a dual-mass flywheel completed and paid for on 19/7/24. The vehicle was returned to the garage for bleeding on 25/7/24 due to the poor-quality gear change.

The vehicle was returned to the garage on 23/10/24 with a problem in selecting reverse gear and subsequently first gear without switching the engine off. The manager confirmed this work and any further work relating to this problem would be on a free-of-charge basis under warranty.

Subsequently, the garage has fitted two more clutches to replace those burnt out and a master cylinder during November 2024. Unfortunately, the problem of selecting reverse and first gear still persists, and the vehicle is going back into the garage tomorrow for further investigation.

Have you any suggestion that could resolve this problem?

Cheers, Michael

Can I fix my Audi's slow gearbox response?

Hi,

I have a 2019 Audi Q3 35 TDI S tronic and it's a great car, but with an annoying trait, especially in heavy traffic in Galway, Dublin etc. The gearbox is hesitant and dim-witted and changes into second gear in about five metres after take off, even going uphill, which leaves it very lethargic. It seems to hesitate for 1 to 1.5 seconds, which means it's hard to nip into gaps in traffic. Have you heard of any cure or is this a trait of this gearbox?

Thanks,

Pat Higgins, Galway

How can I get my dealer to fix my Audi?

Bought an Audi A6 from a dealer in Dublin last Monday; on Wednesday a fault appeared on the dash about the gearbox fault code 17090; rang the dealer on Thursday and told he will not fix the car; took it the main Audi dealer and did a diagnostic check and was told the car is not safe to drive.

What do I do now?
