Opel has confirmed that its new estate-car show car will be called the STX Concept, short for Sports Tourer eXperimental. Set to make its world debut at the Paris Motor Show, the STX will preview Opel’s next-generation design language and its vision for the future of the estate car. It will be revealed at Opel’s press conference on Monday, 12 October. We’ll be there to check it out in the metal for ourselves.

Dave Humphreys was on air with George Lawlor TD this morning on Newstalk’s The Claire Byrne Show to discuss how two static speed cameras have accounted for almost 70 per cent of all fines issued nationwide. The cameras, located on the N25 at Glenmore, Co. Kilkenny, and on the N80 in Co. Carlow, have both been described as having inadequate signage to warn drivers of the change in speed limit ahead. The discussion continued to how average speed cameras can be far more effective in changing driver behaviour. Listen back here. 

Kia has confirmed Irish pricing for the new Seltos, with the hybrid-only SUV starting at €39,500 in K2 trim. K3 costs €42,500, GT-Line €45,000 and the range-topping GT-Line Plus is €48,000. Customer cars are due to arrive in December, ahead of the 271-registration period in January. In the meantime, every Kia dealer in Ireland has received a Seltos display model, so the new SUV is already available to view nationwide. Bet you didn’t know you needed a 900hp Mercedes G-Wagen cabriolet in your life… Brabus thinks otherwise. The 900 Rocket Edition Cabrio takes the Mercedes-AMG G 63, removes its roof and installs a bespoke electric soft top. Meanwhile, its twin-turbo 4.5-litre V8 produces 900hp and 1,250Nm, enough for 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds and 240km/h flat out. Imagine how scary that must be. With the roof down. There’s also a carbon-fibre widebody kit, vast 24-inch wheels and a leather-and-Alcantara cabin. Just 50 will be made. Precisely 50 too many if you ask us.

Following the Irish media launch of the new Audi Q7 yesterday, we were able to glean a few more details about the big SUV. Buyers can order a TDI diesel model right now, from €122,050 and available in two power outputs. In early 2027, the e-hybrid plug-in-hybrid options (PHEVs) will launch, expected to bring the starting price down due to lower CO₂ leading to lower VRT. The bad news is that the PHEV will only be available with five seats, so if you need a third row of seating, you'll need to stick to the diesels. Good news though: the S line is only €5 more expensive until the PHEVs arrive.
