Will VAT and customs be due on this older BMW?

Will customs and VAT be due on a year 2000 BMW? It was imported from GB to Northern Ireland in 2018 by NI dealer for his car collection. His purchase receipt from 2018 is present along with the transport/shipping documents. The V5C remained on a GB address as the dealer bought it and never sold it on. It never had an MOT in Northern Ireland as it was in a "car collection". Just wondering how this will work out regarding VAT and import duty.

Which new EV to go for with up to €40,000 to spend?

Hi there,

I will be looking at getting a new EV but not until later in the year or possibly early next year.

My budget would probably be up to about €40,000. I'd be open to exploring any deal with good value. The budget would include the value of my Peugeot 2008 which is a 241D with 43,500km on the clock.

My annual mileage would be approx. 20,000km. It would be mainly commuting to work, 50km round trip on M50, and short trips around D15. There would be some trips to Wexford from Dublin to visit family, generally once a month. There would also be trips to the coast or surrounding counties to D15 for days out, but nothing too far, within an hour .

My children are grown up and have their own cars, so most journeys have single or double occupancy. I would want the option to carry four passengers comfortably.

I have no real loyalty to brand. My last three petrol cars have been Peugeot, and I have had no problems with them.

Size wise my current car is ideal. I have gone for hatchbacks with my last three. This has mainly to accommodate a dog in the boot. The dog is elderly now and doesn't travel in the boot but the back seat so I am open to saloons as well, but it would need to have a decent size boot. Saying that I am quite used to the SUV-style car.

My main concerns about EVs are range and resale value. I would be looking for something with a decent range and fast charging. I have always changed car every three years or so and resale value counts towards that. I am not interested in PCP as I will be financing it with cash.

How does the new Toyota RAV4 PHEV compare to the old?

What size of wheels are on the Platinum model of the new Toyota RAV4? And what is its horsepower? I have a 242 plug-in Sport four-wheel drive. Should the 262 Platinum be the same power wise?

Can I get this version of the Jeep Avenger in Ireland?

Hi,

I am seeking to purchase the new Jeep Avenger 85th Anniversary Edition in a commercial vehicle (CDV) form but I have been advised by a Jeep dealership that the 85th anniversary will not be available in this market.

Can you kindly advise where I can purchase this vehicle within Ireland and approximately when this will be for sale in Ireland, thanks?

Why no spare wheel in the Toyota RAV4 in Ireland?

In your video review of the 2026 plug-in-hybrid Toyota RAV4 GR Sport Neil clearly mentions the space saver spare wheel. I was in a dealership yesterday looking at the new RAV4 and I was told that there won't be a spare wheel in the new model. Why is that? The spare wheel seems to be in every RAV4 in every other country.

Which all-wheel-drive hybrid SUV for about €40,000?

Hi,

I am driving a 172 Honda CR-V Sport AWD with 150k on the clock and it's the best car I have ever driven, and I am not young! You will know Honda stopped manufacturing this vehicle in 2018. Basically, I need to change as the mileage is getting high.

I want AWD, hybrid petrol or plug-in and my budget is €25k and I estimate my car is worth €18k on trade in giving me over €40k.

I looked at the Toyota RAV4, but I am not sure. I don't think I can afford another Honda which would be my preference as they are very expensive and I don't think the 2019 to 2023 has a very good reputation.

Any help would be great
