Do I need to change my Mondeo's timing belt?

Hello,

I have a 2010 Mondeo 2.0, with 65,000 miles on the clock. Should I change the timing belt now or can it wait?

Hi Mrak,

Assuming you mean the 2.0 TDCi diesel version, the recommended change interval is at least every 200,000 kilometres or 10 years, whichever comes first.

That means your car should be fine until next year.

When to change my Mondeo's timing belt?

Hi,

I have a 2014 Ford Mondeo 2.0 Zetec with 59,000 miles on the clock; when is it advisable to change its timing belt?

Hi Jay,

I'm assuming you have a 2.0 TDCi diesel engine, not one of the 2.0-litre petrol units of that year (they all use timing chains, not belts). If so, then the recommended change interval is at least every 200,000 kilometres or 10 years, whichever comes first.

Is the Ford C-Max a wise investment?

Thinking of changing my 2010 Ford Focus Style 1.6 TDCi  hatchback for a 2012/2013 Ford Focus hatchback of similar engine size. Or maybe a Ford Focus C-Max of similar age. Any advice on what would be best? Wondering about selling on the C-Max in a few years - is there much demand for them with the wide variety of SUV/crossover vehicles available now?

Expert answer

Hi Fiona,

A C-Max would possibly not be a great plan — demand for MPVs is definitely on the way down as people make the switch to SUVs. I think a regular Focus could well be the better bet — unless you need seven seats, it’s not that much less practical, and it will definitely be easier to sell on again later.

Belt or chain in the Ford Kuga?

Has the 2014 Ford Kuga TDCi Titanium 4x2 a timing belt or chain?

Hi Anthony,

That Kuga has a timing belt, which needs to be replaced every 200,000 kilometres or every 10 years - whichever comes first.

Timing belt change in 2011 Ford Fiesta?

Hi Samie,

It depends which engine exactly you have in your Fiesta and when it was manufactured. For both the 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre TDCi engines, there was a changeover in schedule that occurred for cars made later in 2010. Before that, the timing belts in the diesel engines were scheduled to be changed every 200,000 kilometres or every 10 years, but after that, for a brief period of manufacture, it changed to 140,000km (still 10 years) and later again back up to 180,000 kilometres.

We always encourage readers to err on the side of caution with timing belts, so would advise you to consider the 140,000km interval as applicable to your car.

Is my Mondeo's tax bill correct?

I have a 2009 Ford Mondeo 2.0 140hp, but I think my car tax might be wrong. I have been paying €750 a year on this car. I'm only looking into it now after someone telling me it could be the wrong price; how can I look into this or who could I talk to about this?

Thanks

Expert answer

Hi Thomas,

It’s possible. If your car is the 2.0-litre 140hp TDCi saloon with a manual gearbox, then its CO2 emissions should be rated at 156g/km, which would give you a motor tax bill of €570 a year. However, if it’s the automatic version, then the CO2 rating jumps to 189g/km, and that’s a €750 bill.

When to change my Mondeo's timing belt?

I have a 2014 Ford mondeo 2.0 with 114,000 miles on the clock; when do I replace the timing belt?

Expert answer

Hi Michael,

Assuming this is the 2.0 TDCi diesel with 136hp, then the change interval is every 200,000 kilometres or every 10 years. Your car is getting close to that mileage now so it's well worth doing it a little early to be safe.

Is this Ford Kuga timing belt schedule right?

I bought a Ford Kuga in Jan 2015 and have done 127,000km. I was asked to change the timing belt today at a Ford service. I Googled and found out that I can do up to 200,000km or 10 years between timing belt replacements. If that is so I could save money now and do it later. Can you advise? Mine is three years old and I service it regularly, at least every three months, as I am always driving long distances alone.

Hi Bee,

You've not told us which engine your Kuga has, so we're assuming it's the 2.0 TDCi diesel. That does indeed come with a 200,000km/10 years schedule for the timing belt.

When to change my Mondeo's timing belt?

When should I change the timing belt on a 2000 Ford Mondeo diesel?

James King (Ballina)

Expert answer

Hi James,

It's recommended to change that Mondeo's timing belt every 160,000 kilometres or every eight years - whichever comes first - for the 1.6 petrol model, or every 200,000 kilometres and every ten years for the 1.8 or 2.0 TDCi diesels.
