Introduction to the 2027 MINI Countryman Untamed Edition

The Countryman Untamed Edition is a more off-road-oriented variant of MINI's SUV. It features additional styling details, including a vinyl sticker pack and bespoke alloy wheels, plus an interior makeover. It has been designed in a similar vein to the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally and Subaru Uncharted.

Pros & cons of the 2027 MINI Countryman Untamed Edition

Pros: • Surprisingly capable off-road
• Interior design
• Plenty of room inside

Cons: • More style than substance
• Only electric versions get raised height
• Little more than a trim level

Exterior & design of the 2027 MINI Countryman Untamed Edition

  • Two exclusive colours
  • Untamed badging on the exterior
  • Roof tent is a cool optional extra

Park the MINI Countryman Untamed Edition next to a regular Countryman and the exterior styling changes are obvious.

For starters, there is a slight increase in ride height on the electric versions. The suspension changes raise the MINI by 15 millimetres, and when fitted with the optional Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres, the total lift is 19 millimetres.

One important detail to note is that only the electric models in Ireland get the raised suspension. You can choose an Untamed Edition with a petrol engine, but due to homologation reasons, these do not get the increased ride height.

The front bumper has a redesigned lower section to create a type of bash plate appearance, a detail that's repeated on the side sills of the car.

The grille surround has been changed to a colour called Dark Steel, and matt-black vinyl decals on the bonnet dome, wheelarches and the lower door sections enhance the car's image and help prevent paint damage from stones and gravel being thrown up by the exclusive 19-inch black alloy wheels, which are said to be inspired by the look of steel wheels.

MINI added Untamed Edition blue badges on the car's C-pillars behind the rear doors, while the roof comes with three paint options: body-coloured, black or white. The A- and B-pillars are always painted in gloss black.

Paint colours for the 2027 MINI Countryman Untamed Edition

The Untamed Edition is available in two exclusive metallic paint colours: Hideaway Grey and Nomad Blue, in addition to Nanuq White and Midnight Black.

The Nomad Blue can also be specified with a Frozen look, similar to a satin finish - the first time MINI has offered such a thing on a series-production model.

Interior, practicality, tech & comfort of the 2027 MINI Countryman Untamed Edition

  • Nice materials throughout
  • Specific Untamed Edition upholstery
  • Circular OLED display

We're fans of the Countryman's interior as it's an interesting combination of design minimalism and pleasingly tactile materials throughout.

The latter is especially true of the broad, sloped dashboard that has a knitted material finish.

Vertical air vents punctuate the dashboard, and ambient lighting lower down creates a separation between the upper and lower sections of the cabin.

Getting comfortable in the driver's seat

The Countryman Untamed Edition gets sports seats as standard, finished in an exclusive 'Vescin' Nightshade Blue that features knitted surfaces and the Untamed logo on the backrests.

In terms of comfort, they're decent, with enough side support for holding you in place during more spirited driving, yet without being too hard for longer journeys.

You get manual adjustment of the steering column for reach and rake. The adjustment ranges aren't massive but combined with the seat movement should be more than enough for the majority of people to find a comfortable driving position.

The steering wheel is a mostly round shape but is quite chunky in parts, with its two spokes set lower down.

A small number of physical controls on the wheel are easy to reach while driving, and in this version, the third spoke (which is nothing more than a fabric strap) is also finished in the same blue as the detailing on the seats and Untamed badges.

Infotainment and technology

By today's standards, the interior of the Countryman is quite a sparse place when it comes to technology. You don't get a traditional instrument binnacle or digital display behind the steering wheel, for example.

There is a head-up display, but it's the more basic kind that projects onto a pop-up plastic panel rather than onto the windscreen.

The main focal point of the dashboard is therefore the circular OLED touchscreen. This 9.4-inch display is a nod to MINI's heritage and how the speedometer appeared in the original 'Mini' way back when.

Aside from adding a bit of whimsy, the graphics are pin-sharp, and the screen reacts quickly to inputs. You get the option of using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, of course.

There are two USB-C ports in the front, and a wireless charging pad just below the physical control panels on the dashboard that's rated at 15W. Two more USB-C ports are available for those seated in the rear.

Practicality around the cabin

The Countryman is by far the largest MINI you can buy , and that means there's plenty of space throughout the cabin, though it's not the most practical car we've encountered when it comes to storage.

There's space for oddments beneath the wireless charging pad and two cupholders. One neat feature of the Untamed Edition is that the storage locker on the centre console gets model-specific treatment, with blue bungee cords decorating the top.

Elsewhere, the door bins are a useful size, large enough for drinks bottles.

Rear-seat passenger space

As the Countryman is the largest MINI, then it's the best MINI when it comes to rear passenger space. Thanks to a 40:20:40 split in the rear-seat bench, the outer seats provide plenty of comfort.

With the front seats in a typical position, there's plenty of legroom for two in the rear, but with three adults in the back it does start to feel a bit cramped.

The petrol versions can have a sliding rear-seat bench that's also split and moves over 130 millimetres, but electric models get a fixed rear bench.

Fitting child seats to the MINI Countryman Untamed Edition

Given the remit of the Countryman and its likelihood of appealing to families, it's no surprise to find that it's possible to fit three child seats in total.

Each of the outer rear seats is equipped with an ISOFIX anchoring system, and the rear doors open wide enough to make it reasonably easy to get kids in and out. The front passenger seat is also equipped with ISOFIX anchoring points.

Boot space in the MINI Countryman Untamed Edition

Boot capacity in the electric MINI Countryman is 460 litres, and this can be increased to 1,450 litres by folding down the rear seats.

There is also some underfloor storage in the boot, with enough space for charging cables and some other odds and ends.

If you choose a petrol Countryman, boot space is 450 litres but can be expanded to the same 1,450 litres.

Towing with the MINI Countryman Untamed Edition

It may surprise some, but the Countryman is capable of towing up to 2,000kg with a braked trailer when it's powered by its 2.0-litre petrol engine.

You can still tow with the electric Countryman E, but only 750kg in either single- or dual-motor configurations.

Safety in the MINI Countryman Untamed Edition

The MINI Countryman scored a five-star rating when it was assessed by Euro NCAP. That report included an 83 per cent score for protection of adult occupants, 87 per cent for child occupants, 81 per cent for vulnerable road users and 79 per cent for safety assist.

Performance of the 2027 MINI Countryman Untamed Edition

  • Countryman SE All4 gets 313hp
  • Front- and all-wheel drive available
  • Can really go off-road

There's a choice of four powertrains for the Countryman Untamed Edition, starting with the 170hp 1.5-litre mild-hybrid three-cylinder petrol engine that also generates up to 280Nm. A more powerful 2.0-litre mild-hybrid four-cylinder petrol engine produces 218hp and 360Nm.

Two electric powertrains are also available: the single-motor Countryman E powered by a 204hp motor or the dual-motor 313hp version called the Countryman SE.

Driving the MINI Countryman Untamed Edition in Lake Tahoe, United States

Words by Dave Humphreys on 22 October 2026

We have to start by pointing out the slight differences between what we drove at the car's launch versus what will be sold in Ireland.

In the US, we drove the 218hp petrol All4 model called the Cooper S, which also gets a lifted suspension setup, but as already mentioned, in Ireland (and Europe) only the electric powertrains will get the raised suspension because the petrol versions would require further emissions homologation.

The change in suspension setup doesn't have any noticeable effect on ride comfort. At low speeds, the optional all-terrain tyres do add a little knottiness to the ride but nothing that's unexpected from such a tyre.

As it picks up speed, the automatic transmission shifts up through the gears cleanly and so long as you're not trying to wring out ever drop of performance, it's a smooth and relatively quiet driving experience.

Despite its SUV remit, the Countryman still retains some fun in how it drives. Sure, it's not as agile as the smaller MINI hatchback, but it has a steering setup that's direct and accurate, while the suspension is well damped.

However, at times the ride can be a bit too firm, especially noticeable on poorer road surfaces. There's little in the way of body lean through the bends, though, and the all-wheel drive increases its sense of stability.

All quite expected from a company that still talks about a go-kart feeling when tuning its cars' handling characteristics.

Where the Countryman did surprise us was when we took it off the beaten track onto some trails. The added lift made it a cinch to get over some of the gentler gradient changes.

We'd like it if there was more of a cutaway on the front and rear bumpers from a functional and aesthetic standpoint, though neither end proved to be a hindrance on the trail chosen by MINI.

Following more challenging sections with steeper rock climbs, it's surprising what the MINI is capable of tackling without any real difficulty. MINI slightly tweaked the traction control and anti-lock-brake settings, but the special tyres here are doing a fair chunk of the heavy lifting.

We covered ground that, had it not been on the approved driving route for the event, we would have turned back and found an alternative way and presumed the Countryman wouldn't have been able for it.

It's debatable as to how many buyers of this MINI will actually try to tackle such terrain, but it's quite impressive how a small lift in suspension and the right tyres can give a car considerably more ability in challenging conditions.

Range, battery, charging and running costs of the 2027 MINI Countryman Untamed Edition

  • Uses a 65.2kWh battery
  • 500-kilometre range
  • 130kW DC charging

The 2026 Countryman electric upgrade included a new silicon-carbide inverter to improve efficiency and reduce losses, along with low-friction wheel bearings.

Battery options and official range

In 2026, MINI introduced a slightly upgraded battery pack for the Countryman, which increased the usable energy capacity to 65.2kWh.

That was only a small increase, as the previous battery had a 64.8kWh capacity. That change did move the single-motor Countryman's range up to 500 kilometres, an important mark.

Due to the suspension and wheel changes, the Untamed Edition's range drops to 496 kilometres. The dual-motor Countryman SE All4 Untamed Edition has a lower range of 445 kilometres.

Real-world range and efficiency of the MINI Countryman Untamed Edition

Our brief spell with the MINI Countryman Untamed Edition was with the US-spec petrol engine and lifted kit, which isn't representative of what we'll have in Ireland.

Official consumption for the single-motor Countryman E Untamed Edition is 14.9kWh/100km, with a figure of 16.3kWh/100km for the dual-motor Countryman SE All4.

Charging up the MINI Countryman Untamed Edition

As standard, the MINI Countryman is equipped with 11kW charging on three-phase AC, with the option of upgrading that to 22kW, and up to 130kW on DC outlets.

The latter enables a 10 to 80 per cent charge to be completed in less than 30 minutes.

Servicing the MINI Countryman Untamed Edition

MINI applies a condition-based servicing schedule for the Countryman, in both petrol and electric versions. MINI Ireland offers a service inclusive package that spreads the cost of regular servicing over five years or 100,000 kilometres.

MINI Countryman Untamed Edition warranty

The MINI Countryman Untamed Edition is covered by a three-year, unlimited mileage warranty from the date of first registration. Separately, the high-voltage battery in the electric models is covered by an eight-year, 160,000-kilometre warranty.

Irish pricing & rivals to the 2027 MINI Countryman Untamed Edition

  • Untamed Edition starts at €40,798
  • Petrol and electric variants available
  • Roof tent costs extra

The electric version of the MINI Countryman Untamed Edition is the most affordable due to how CO2 emissions affect vehicle taxation in Ireland, but it does carry a hefty €5,050 premium over the entry-level version of the Countryman E at €40,798.

If you're looking to maximise its potential, then you'll need to choose the dual-motor All4 version, which costs from €47,390.

Verdict - should you buy the 2027 MINI Countryman Untamed Edition?

The Countryman Untamed Edition is as much about the styling it brings as its abilities off-road. We were surprised by how capable it proved to be, though we suspect most people will be more interested in the unique exterior and interior than actually challenging its capabilities. If you're serious about off-roading, chances are this won't be enough for what you might be looking for in a vehicle.
