Mission: Impossible — Fallout. A car nut’s trailer breakdown

Complete Car Features | Mission: Impossible — Fallout. A car nut’s trailer breakdown

Can I just say how excited I am about the new Mission: Impossible movie? I'm old enough to remember the original TV series with Steven Hill, Peter Graves, Leonard Nimoy (yes, really) and Martin Landau. The Tom Cruise-starring films have been a bit up-and-down quality-wise (First; great. Second; awful. Third; fine. Fourth; good) but the most recent, fifth installment, Rogue Nation, was terrific and with director Chris McQuarrie returning, the sixth fillm, subtitled Fallout, promises to out-Bond Bond when it comes to entertaining spy action.

Best of all, Mission: Impossible films are generally good for a bit of all-action car…

What's it like, driving an electric taxi?

Complete Car Features | What's it like, driving an electric taxi?

So, now that Shane Ross is knocking €7,000 off the price of an electric taxi, what's it going to be like for passengers, and owner operators? You could buy a Hyundai Ioniq or Nissan Leaf, of course, but a far better idea for the average taxi-man might be to get Nissan's updated eNV200 Evalia electric van-based taxi.

It's just been updated with a new 40kWh battery, nicked from the new Leaf hatchback, although its 110hp electric motor and the…

Complete Car Features | Video break: Daytona in the rain

In racing, rain is the ultimate equaliser. Some people abhor it, some adore it. If Ayrton Senna opened his curtains on the morning of a race and saw rain, in his head, he'd already won. Gilles Villeneuve once went eleven seconds a lap quicker than anyone at a sodden Watkins Glen. Eleven.

For this particular video break, we're strapped in with Leh Keen during a very wet qualifying session for the 2016 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. You'd like Leh. He's got quite the collection of cool machinery at home, which includes an ex-works Subaru Impreza WRC, as well as…

Complete Car Features | The Automotive Stars of CES 2018

The 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas has just wrapped up and this year it brought us very little in the way of surprises. There were a couple of big TVs from LG and Samsung (which were mightily impressive), some new earphones from Sony (which were not) and some development in the field of "smart kitchens", which, even to us technophobes, sounds rather exciting. Considering that these days, cars are a bit more than just mechanical parts, it's no surprise that motor manufacturers are now using CES as a showcase for their high-tech futures, especially in the line of…

Complete Car Features | Interview: Jari-Matti Latvala

I was fortunate enough to grab some time with Jari-Matti Latvala at the Autosport International show last week. By a sheer stroke of good luck, we were left undisturbed in the media centre for a spell, and the talk flowed.

Jari-Matti is one of the sport's icons, and his flat-out approach and tendency to wear his heart on his sleeve has endeared him to legions of fans all over the world. He's heading into what could be a pivotal year for him and his lifelong ambition to become world champion, with the outrageous-looking Yaris WRC now a seriously competitive package…
