Six cars have been shortlisted by the European Autobest jury in its Best Buy Car of Europe for 2022. They are, in alphabetical order, the Dacia Spring, Hyundai Bayon, Opel Mokka, Renault Arkana, Skoda Fabia and Toyota Yaris Cross. For any new car to meet the criteria for becoming an Autobest finalist it must have an affordable entry price minus local taxes.
In late November all of the finalists will be accessed in detail by the jury prior to votes being cast. All cars undergo thorough assessment at the Fahrtechnik proving grounds in Teesdorf, Austria, to explore the full dynamic capabilities in a controlled environment. But it isn't just how the cars perform; design aspects, safety systems, build quality and even the accessibility of a dealer network are factors. The jury, which is made up of 32 members each representing a country in Europe, includes Complete Car Road Test Editor, Dave Humphreys. The overall winner will be announced in December. Previous winners include the SEAT Leon, Opel Corsa and Fiat Tipo.
"This year we have the most electrified group of finalists ever, with everything from mild hybrid to fully electric. The latter is the first time that we have had a solely electric vehicle in the final which demonstrates how this technology is becoming more affordable for the consumer. It shows how the automotive landscape in Europe is continuing to shift towards an electric future," said Dave Humphreys.

Autobest recognises other aspects of the automotive industry
In addition to choosing the car it deems best reflects the needs of the consumer, Autobest also acknowledges other areas of the automotive industry. From motorsport to technical innovations and design to company management, a total of eight other award categories are also decided by the jury.
