1 - Mazda MX-5
The MX-5 is the answer to the great question of 'what is the sweetest car in the world to drive?' It comes with fabulous steering and chassis balance and enough power to have fun without running foul of the law. Near to perfect.
2 - Ford Mustang Convertible
It's sill OK to like American things, right? The Mustang is big, bold, brash and a touch crude, but lots of good, wholesome fun. The 2.3 EcoBoost model is surprisingly practical, but the big, thirsty 5.0 V8 is the one everyone wants.
3 - Jaguar F-Type Roadster
We had to wait 35 years to get it, but Jaguar finally made a worthy E-Type successor. The F-Type is gorgeous, ballistic, bombastic and fantastic. Too-plain cabin made up for by the terrific engines.
4 - Porsche 718 Boxster
Those who feared a four-cylinder Boxster would be boring were wrong. Not as tuneful as the old flat-six, but hugely impressive, and surprisingly frugal too. Chassis and quality as sublime as ever.
5 - Fiat 124 Spider
Take a Mazda MX-5, give it a gorgeous, retro-sixties body and a feisty turbocharged Italian heart and you get the Fiat 124 Spider. As welcome a throwback as there's ever been, it's fun and fabulous, albeit more expensive than the Mazda.
