Lamborghini has, at the World Finals event of its Super Trofeo racing series held at Jerez in Spain, revealed two new vehicles - a racing Urus and, more importantly, a teaser shot of a new 12-cylinder hypercar it is planning for 2020.

830hp 6.5 V12

Developed by Lamborghini Squadra Corse, the division of the company specialising in motorsports, the hypercar will be track-only but not developed for racing. It will be built in limited numbers, with aerodynamic and mechanical upgrades designed to bring out the best in the 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 - meaning it is almost certainly some derivation of the mighty Aventador.

Lamborghini's preview shows a few idiosyncrasies of the car, such as a huge rear wing, an airscoop mounted on the roof and a racing bonnet with twin air intakes, but then this is all understandable given the car will develop 830hp. Its structure will be an aluminium front subframe joined to a carbon-fibre monocoque, while a steel rollcage provides more structural rigidity. Power is flowed to the wheels via a six-speed Xtrac sequential transmission, which forms part of the load-bearing structure as the suspension arms are connected to the gearbox. A self-locking mechanical differential should also aid handling.

Racing Urus ready for 2020

Nine-time Motocross champion Tony Cairoli got the chance to drive the Urus ST-X at Jerez, the vehicle claimed to be the 'first super-SUV in the world of racing'. It has the same twin-turbo V8 as the road-going Urus but a lighter body, mainly thanks to a carbon-fibre bonnet, a rear carbon wing and racing exhausts. Lambo painted the show car in Verde Mantis green, a Squadra Corse favourite, and then highlighted many of the details (outside and in) in red. The first race for the ST-X is scheduled to be during the 2020 World Finals in Misano Adriatico.
