770hp for racing-inspired Lamorghini Aventador SC18 Alston.

What's the news?

For everyone who feels the need to have a 770hp 6.5-litre V12 massaging the small of their back (that's all of us, right?) Lamorghini has good news - it's making this, the Aventador SC18 Alston.

Sadly, Lamorghini is only making one of these racing-inspired cars, and it's being built specially for one lucky, and presumably staggeringly wealthy, customer. In fact, technically it's not being built by Lamborghini at all, but by Lamborghini Squadra Corse - the car maker's racing department, although the Centro Stile styling department weighed in on it too, so it's kinda a factory thing.

Lamborghini says that the car features 'extreme' aerodynamic solutions, partly lifted from the Huracan GT3 race car. That car basically donates its air intakes to the SC18, while the sides and rear feature fenders, fins and airscoops are inspired by the Huracan Super Trofeo EVO.

There's a huge carbon-fibre rear wing, which can be adjusted through three stepped settings, and there are twelve delectable air intakes atop the engine cover, which Lamborghini says is to optimise heat exchange and cooling, but which we reckon were put there just because they look awesome.

Those intakes feed the mighty 6.5-litre engine, which has 720Nm of torque to go with its 770hp, and that's shunted to the wheels via a seven-speed gearbox which features ISR (independent Shifting Rod - no, us neither) technology.

There's more carbon fibre in the body, and other weight saving techniques, but Lamorghini hasn't issued an all-up weight figure for the car as yet. We, helpfully, can tell you that the ground clearance is a mere 109mm. Watch out for that speed hump...

The carbon body does get a unique paint finish - Grigio Daytona - which also incorporates screen-printed red elements. The cabin gets black bucket seats in Alcantara suede with contrast red stitching, and there are massive carbon fibre wheels - 20 inches at the front, 21 inches at the rear - with single nut centre-locks. Completing the race-car style package are Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres, and a data-logging system.

Expect to see some or all of these features work their way through to the regular Aventador, doubtlessly as staggeringly expensive options.
