Roofless version of the dramatic Aventador S will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

What's the news?

The Lamborghini Aventador has been around for quite some time now, but its ability to instil shock and awe in onlookers hasn't dissipated in the slightest. No-one seems to have told the boys and girls at Sant'Agata though, which might explain why we are now presented with the Aventador S Roadster.

Stunning, isn't it? That Blu Aegir hue is a new addition, and the removable roof panels can be specified in gloss black, naked carbon fibre or other finishes through Lamborghini's Ad Personam personalisation service. Of course, these panels will be spending most of their time in the front storage compartment, while you drink in the glorious soundtrack of that intoxicating V12 and observe the envious stares from bystanders.

Underneath, the car is more or less the same as its hard-top brother. Ergo, 740hp and 690Nm of torque are at your disposal, giving a top speed of 350km/h and a 0-100km/h time of three seconds dead. Lambo buffs will note that that time is a smidgeon slower than what the Aventador S Coupe achieves, due to a 50kg weight increase. Does it really matter? We'd have to say no.

Chassis-wise, the proven 'S' revisions including four-wheel steering, magnetic dampers, and revised all-wheel drive and ESC settings contribute to what Stefano Domenicali calls "an emotive open-air driving experience". Carbon ceramic brakes and the lightning-quick Independent Shifting Rod (ISR) seven-speed transmission also appear.

European prices start at €313,666 before taxes, although a trip through the land of Ad Personam will see that rise sharply. Domenicali sums it up, "The Aventador S Roadster offers the thrill of open air driving without compromising on driving dynamics or the occupants' comfort, and adds a further luxurious dimension through the personalisation options available."
