Mitsubishi teases coupe SUV concept

New Mitsubishi concept said to expand SUV offering, will get world debut in Geneva.

What's the news?

Mitsubishi is teasing a compact, coupe-like SUV that it is going to display at this year's Geneva Motor Show.

Said to fit in with both the Outlander/Outlander PHEV family of mid-sized SUVs and the ageing ASX crossover, this newcomer seems to take its inspiration from the Concept XR-PHEV II that the company showed at the same event in 2015.

Aside from this cleverly-lit picture, all we know is that Mitsubishi says it has a 'wedge-shape belt line, a forceful character line running through the side, a more steeply raked rear window, and long wheelbase with short rear overhang proportions'.

Given the 2015 precursor concept's name, expect there to be a plug-in hybrid version of this Mitsubishi SUV using some form of the Outlander PHEV's drivetrain.

Anything else?

Its supposedly 'dynamic and sporty, active-looking coupe SUV shape' means this fresh Mitsubishi could easily fit in alongside the ASX, the newcomer being an analogue for something like the Toyota C-HR rather than a RAV4. However, the ASX has been showing its age for a good few years now and there's every likelihood that this could, instead, be its direct replacement.

The Geneva Motor Show kicks off on March 7 and ends on March 19.
