Ferrari unveils Pininfarina special edition

Six Ferrari 458 Spider based cars will be built.

Ferrari has unveiled the first of six Pininfarina Sergio models at its exclusive dealership in Knightsbridge London. Based on the Segrio concept from last year's Geneva Motor Show all six of the cars are already sold at a 'if you have to ask you can't afford' price.

Built to mark the Ferrari's 60 year partnership with Pinifarina and also to commemorate the life of Sergio Pininfarina the cars will not be built by Ferrari but by the famed coachbuilder with Maranello instead donating six 458 Spiders.

The son of Battista 'Pinin' Farina, Sergio is the man credited with forging the relationship that saw Pininfarina becoming Ferrari's de facto in house designers.

Staying as close as legally possible to the Geneva show car the production version of the Sergio Pininfarina eschews a traditional windscreen with a small wing ahead of the cockpit designed to funnel air up and over the car's occupants. Whether this feature makes it on to the road remains to be seen; the Renault Sport Spider famously had no windscreen on the continent but all 96 cars sold in the UK had to have one fitted.

The Sergio is on display at Ferrari's 'Ateleir' at the Berkley Hotel in Knighstbridge.
