That looks… awesome!
It really does, and if anything the Fourgonnette, with its chunky, square rear end, looks even more adorable than the oh-so-cute hatchback 2CV concept.
How real an idea is this Citroën 2CV Fourgonnette?
Possibly very real. Citroen hasn’t issued any technical details for the 2CV Fourgonnette Concept, but we assume that it’s using the same compact battery as the hatch for a range of around 300km. There’s also no word on exactly how much stuff you could cram into that boxy rear end, but judging by the sliding-up panel at the side, Citroen is already looking forward to this being used as a mobile coffee bar.
So they’re going to make the Citroen 2CV Fourgonnette?
Not so fast. Officially, Citroen is only saying that: “While this concept does not preview a future production model in the short term, it opens up new avenues for consideration and demonstrates one thing: the spirit of the 2 CV Fourgonnette remains remarkably relevant and continues to inspire.”
According to Xavier Chardon, Citroen’s CEO: “The 2 CV Fourgonnette was more than just a workhorse. It was part of everyday life. Simple, ingenious and accessible, it above all possessed something few commercial vehicles have: a soul. That is the spirit we are bringing back to life today. Because being useful should never mean being ordinary.”
We want one
Yes, we do too. And there’s more than a little hope that it could eventually become a reality. The market for electric commercial vehicles is growing, and for companies that work mostly in city centres and don’t need to carry huge loads, you can easily see the appeal of this Fourgonnette, even beyond its adorable retro styling.
It certainly sounds as if Citroen is seriously considering it for production alongside the new 2CV (and remember that the hatchback is still, technically, a concept too…) with the company saying: “Citroen also reaffirms the close relationship it has maintained with professionals for more than a century - a commitment deeply rooted in its DNA: supporting those who work, run businesses and travel every day by offering vehicles designed to make their lives easier.”
