If it's June, that means it's getting close to Goodwood Festival of Speed time, and THAT means car makers are falling over themselves announcing demonstration runs of their most exciting new models up the famous hill climb.
This, though, is a bit more interesting than most because it's the replacement for one of our favourite cars, ever: the Alpine A110.

Is this the electric A110?
Yes, and then again no. Yes, it's an Alpine sports car, and yes, it's electric, but no, it's not quite the new A110 - it's a development 'mule', an early prototype that will show us something of how the new A110 moves, but nothing at all of how it looks.

What's under the skin?

Beneath the mule's disguise lies the new APP platform - that's Alpine Performance Platform, a new setup that Alpine claims allows it to switch to battery power while still retaining the A110's soul and sense of driving fun.
Do we know any more?
Not much, other than that the A110 will use a derivation of the same torque-vectoring system that has makes the Alpine A390 crossover so sharp to drive, which suggests two electric motors, one for each rear wheel.
Isn't there going to be a petrol A110 too?
We don't know that for certain, but Alpine has definitely hinted that the APP can be adapted to take a hybrid or petrol engine. We'll have to wait and see on that score.
What else will Alpine be doing at Goodwood?

Lots. On the Thursday of Goodwood, there will be an Alpine 'Brand Parade' that charts the marque's evolution from tiny, light rally cars through its rear-engined sports cars and Le Mans success to its modern existence as an EV-focused brand.
The current Alpine F1 squad will also be in attendance, including Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto, who will be joined by Alpine Academy and reserve drivers Nina Gademan, Paul Aron and Ireland's very own Alex Dunne. There will, of course, be static displays of the current Alpine lineup, including the A290 hot hatch and the A390 crossover. There's also an interactive Alpine Active Torque Vectoring (AATV) simulator, daily talks and signing sessions with Alpine's drivers, and lunchtime DJ sets.
When is all this happening?
The Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place at the Goodwood Estate, near Chichester on the south east coast of England, from 9 to 12 July.
