Alpine has released a few more tantalising details about its forthcoming electric A110 sports car. The two-door coupe will be built on the new Alpine Performance Platform (APP), which will also sire an open-topped spider variant and even a more spacious '2+2' variant with rear seats.

I'm listening...

Those new underpinnings are key to the success of the electric Alpine, as low weight and agility are priorities for the French brand. Mindful of this, it has bullishly claimed that the platform "addresses all the technical challenges around weight, design and electrification and facilitates the creation of an electric sportscar true to Alpine's DNA.”

It's a lightweight aluminium construction using bonding and riveting to enhance structural rigidity and, to ensure the perfect weight balance - 40:60, biased to the rear according to Alpine - the battery cells will be split between two packs in the chassis. As can be seen in the images here, the driver is sitting nice and low with no battery underneath them.

An 800-volt electrical system will be used to reduce weight and speed up charging, while drive will be to the rear wheels via a dual-motor system that Alpine claims will have exceptionally fast control for precise torque vectoring.

We're told that all-new aluminium suspension has been developed for the new EV, along with braking and steering systems. The Alpine Dynamic Module (ADM) is tasked with integrated all these sub-systems, plus, tantalisingly, the active aerodynamics.

Alpine is adamant that the driver will sit low down in the new car, with a vertical steering wheel in front of them, so it will be interesting to see how the batteries are packaged.

Where can I buy an Alpine in Ireland?

There's only one Alpine dealership in Ireland at the moment - you'll find it in the Windsor MotorMall just off Dublin's M50 motorway.
