Mazda has confirmed that its Vision Model concept will make its world premiere at this month's Japan Mobility Show, which runs from 31 October to 9 November at Tokyo Big Sight.

What does the Vision Model look like?

So far, Mazda has only released a single teaser image showing a shadowy silhouette with a low, sloping roof. At first glance, the small side window points to a two-door-style profile, but there are in fact two doors on each side of the concept car.

Their handles are hidden, however, complementing the smooth and uncluttered bodywork, while the car appears to use cameras in place of door mirrors.

Inside, you can just make out slim, angular headrests with a futuristic look. We'll know the full story once the covers come off at the show later this month. Beyond the name and outline, there are no further details. However, Mazda has said that the Vision Model sets the tone for what comes next for the brand, mixing driver focus with lower-impact tech.

Is Mazda doing anything else at the Tokyo show?

The show theme for Mazda is: “The joy of driving fuels a sustainable tomorrow.” Alongside the concept, Mazda says it will display technology aimed at cutting tailpipe emissions, including a prototype CO2-capture system that “reduces CO2 emissions the more people drive” and algae-derived carbon-neutral fuel.

The stand will also have the all-new Mazda CX-5 in European specification. That car was first shown in July and is due to reach showrooms at the end of the year. This will be the model's first public display.

At the “Tokyo Future Tour 2035” show area, which will focus on mobility adaptations for drivers with disabilities, Mazda will display its CX-30 SeDV (Self-empowerment Driving Vehicle) fitted with an intuitive manual-control driving system and, over in the Mobility Culture area, Mazda will have its much-loved RX-7.

Also, during the Japan Mobility Show, Mazda's Super Taikyu race car will run demonstration laps using next-generation fuels. Showgoers can also book public-road drives in the Mazda CX-60 and CX-80 as part of the ASV (advanced safety vehicle) programme.

For those with little ones in tow, at the KidZania tie-in, children can try small-scale casting, polishing and painting in a factory-style setting.

If you fancy being one of the first to see the Vision Model, Mazda's press conference will be livestreamed on Wednesday, 29 October, 3am Irish time.
