Porsche has revealed its new Taycan GTS, which it describes as a "sporting middle ground" in the Taycan range, ahead of the model's debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show this weekend. The new model will join an expanding Taycan range, with Porsche also announcing the arrival of a new Sport Turismo body shape.

Sporting all-rounder

Porsche claims its new Taycan GTS will follow in the footsteps of other GTS models, focusing on "driver appeal and athletic style". To that end, it will come with 598hp, allowing it to dash from a standstill to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds before racing on to a top speed of 250km/h.

At the same time, the GTS models will also come with the "drivetrain control strategy improvements" Porsche introduced as part of the 2022 upgrades earlier this year. That should mean owners will be able to get as close as possible to the car's 502km official range, which is the highest of any model in the existing Taycan line-up.

GTS versions of the Taycan will also come with adaptive air suspension that has been tuned specifically for the GTS, giving it a sharper focus on handling. And Porsche has fiddled with the optional rear-wheel steering to make it more responsive, too, as well as giving the GTS its own model-specific soundtrack through the Porsche Electric Sport Sound system.

But all those features will be found under the skin. Externally, the "sporting all-rounder" in the Taycan range is marked out by its dark trim around the bases of the door mirrors and the side windows. Inside, meanwhile, there's Race-Tex microfibre upholstery to enhance the impression of sportiness, while there's brushed aluminium interior trim with a black anodised finish.

"The Taycan model range has grown steadily since its world premiere in 2019. Three body variants with up to five engine options offer something for everyone," says Kevin Giek, Vice President Model Line Taycan. "I am particularly pleased that we now also have a Taycan with the legendary GTS moniker. It is positioned above the Taycan 4S and below the Taycan Turbo derivatives, so it represents a real sweet spot in the range."

Practicality and performance

That GTS powertrain will also be available in a new Sport Turismo body style, which is being introduced across the Taycan range. Sitting between the standard four-door Taycan and the Cross Turismo model, the Sport Turismo is an estate that shares the Cross Turismo's spacious rear end, but lacks the off-road-inspired variant's raised ride height and rugged body cladding.

According to Porsche, this new model is designed to offer the practicality of the Cross Turismo with the "on-road performance" of the standard Taycan sports saloon.

Available to order

Both versions of the Taycan are available to order from dealers in Ireland from today (November 17), but the first customer vehicles will not arrive until spring 2022.
