Plus, you can get a free home charger, and there’s a new MG ZS EV on the way.

MG Motor Ireland is going to offer 2.9 per cent finance across its all-electrified lineup for the 221-numberplate run-in.

Bigger battery for the MG5 Sportwagon

With Ireland's January plate-change fast approaching, MG is hoping to make a little hay from the current desire for all-things electric. The range kicks off with the rather practical MG5 Sportwagon electric estate, which starts from €29,645. There's a new Long-Range model now, with a 61.1kWh battery and a one-charge range of 403km. That battery can be fast-charged to 80 per cent capacity in 40 minutes, and the MG5 is safer now too, with MG Pilot, a suite of high-tech driver assistance technology.

The MG HS plug-in hybrid SUV is also still available and comes with a 90kW electric motor, and a 52km electric-only range on a full charge of its battery. Prices start from €38,150, and motor tax for the HS is only €140, plus you can get the same 2.9 per cent finance deal as on the MG5.

Cheaper finance for the ZS

There's also a run-out version of the existing MG ZS compact electric crossover, with prices starting from €28,995 and a special low-rate 1.9 per cent interest finance package. That version has a one-charge range of 263km.

All of those electric and plug-in hybrid MG models come with a free home charging point (while stocks of such things last).

New, bigger-battery ZS coming next year

Plus, in the new year, we'll get to see the first of the updated MG ZS electric crossovers arriving on Irish roads. You'll be able to spot these from their blanked-off radiator grille. Underneath, there is a bigger 72kWh battery which gives the ZS a 439km one-charge range. Inside, there's a new iSMART infotainment system with greater levels of connectivity and live services running on a new 10.1-inch touchscreen.

Helpfully, there's also an external display, built into the charging port, which shows you how much charge is in the battery. We'll get prices for the new MG ZS in November, along with Irish arrival dates.

All new MG models come with a seven-year, 150,000km warranty.
