Mercedes-Benz eyes sales growth for 202-plate

A flurry of new models bodes well for Mercedes-Benz.

The impending arrival of crucial new models for Mercedes-Benz sees the company eyeing up solid sales for the second half of this year and the introduction of the 202 registration plate in July.

Among the new models set to arrive is the German marque's flagship S-Class saloon, which is due to make its debut before the end of this year. Ahead of that there is a heavily updated E-Class that will go head-to-head with the similarly refreshed BMW 5 Series and Audi A6 in the premium executive saloon segment.

When the new E-Class arrives first the offering will be hybrids consisting of the E300de plug-in hybrid and E300e, in both saloon and estate guises. Mercedes-Benz is expecting to see an increase in demand for hybrids and expects this to be a key part of the E-Class offering. Under the company's EQ sub-brand, hybrids will account of 16 models in the range.

New GLA and GLB expected to be a hit with buyers

One of the most popular segments right now is the compact SUV class, and 2020 will see Mercedes introduce the latest GLA and the all-new GLB. Pricing for the new GLA is due to start at €38,800 and there will be numerous versions available including more highly tuned Mercedes-AMG variants.

The arrival of the Mercedes-Benz GLB should go down well with buyers in Ireland thanks to its availability as a seven-seat model. Clearly aimed at families, the new GLB is set to start at €42,350. If and when that third row of seats isn't required, it can be folded flat and hidden away within the boot floor. The GLB will come as standard with a five-seat configuration.

Commenting on the arrival of these new models. Mercedes-Benz Sales Manager for Ireland, Ciaran Allen, said: "Through its concentration on hybrids, Mercedes-Benz is poised to capture the growing world-wide demand for this technology amongst eco-conscious motorists".
