Looking to import a Kia EV3 from the North.

I am purchasing a Kia EV3 electric vehicle from a dealer in Northern Ireland. It was first registered in Northern Ireland in February 2026. There are 4,200 miles on the clock. I calculate from the VRT calculator that there is no VRT on the vehicle.

Is this correct and how will the VAT work as it seems that the dealer in NI can claim back the VAT when it is exported?

Thanks.

Do workshop staff get trained up when a new brand comes into a dealership?

Hi,

I've always been curious about the situation when an established car dealer takes on or is awarded a new franchise. Obviously they get the new signage and showroom stocked with the latest models plus the sales team are well versed about the brand and models. My concern is the workshop teams.

The mechanics and parts department etc. What is put in place so they are up to speed and able to work on the new brand effectively? If you have a team working with Opel, Renault or whatever for 30 odd years that will know them inside out. How do I know if I book my car in for something that they are adequately trained to complete the task for the new brand immediately?

Thanks

Should we buy a new Renault Captur?

Hi,
I'm just about to purchase new car and have more or less decided on the Renault Captur (we've always had Renault Scenics but now can do with smaller car as less childcare).

Is this a good choice for us? We use our car mainly for traveling from Scotland to our daughter in Plymouth - quite a distance, away good 11 hours - and secondly for other family visits of about 200km distance. What is your thinking?
