Skoda Epiq or Kia EV3 for my first EV?

I'm thinking of changing to an electric car; should I go for a Kia EV3 or Skoda Epiq?

Hi Neil,

First up, regardless what we say, make sure you go for as long a test drive as you can in both of those cars - and as many others as you can - so you begin to understand what you like and don't like.

Now, we wouldn't have said the Epiq and EV3 are natural rivals, especially as the Skoda starts at under €25k in its most basic format, while the entry-level Kia EV3 is €36,790. The most expensive Epiq listed on Skoda Ireland's website is €32,979, though there is a Sportline version coming that will be more again.

Comparing that standard range EV3 with the Epiq Selection 55 reveals a surprising number of similarities. They have similar boot space, similar performance and similar range on a charge of their battery packs. However, the EV3 is a larger car, with more cabin space and is more refined on the road.

We also prefer the cabin of the Kia as it has lots of physical switchgear - where the Skoda relies a lot on the touchscreen. Finally, Kia's warranty is more impressive than Skoda's.

Like I said at the start, we'd not consider these true rivals and if your budget takes in the Kia EV3, then the Skoda Elroq is a closer rival than the Epiq.
