Versatile all-wheel drive system to underpin new SUV.

Jaguar has revealed some more technical details of its new F-Pace SUV, which is due to publicly debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. Although this will be one of the largest Jaguars ever produced its designers have been working hard to ensure that it handles and performs with greater agility.

Chief Engineer Mike Cross, the man famed for honing the much lauded Jaguar F-Type amongst others, said: "We haven't made any compromises or exceptions. The new F-Pace must be a true Jaguar and deliver the Jaguar dynamics DNA".

The F-Pace will be built using the latest Jaguar Lightweight Aluminium Architecture to save weight and also to maximise the structural rigidity. Comfort will remain one of the key features of this luxurious new model when it goes on sale, which is why the F-Pace will use a sophisticated double wishbone setup in the front and integral link system in the rear. "We've tested ride and handling to extremities in all environments and in all conditions", added Cross. "The result is that the new F-Pace is as engaging and rewarding to drive as it is going to be enjoyable to own."

To further enhance the handing characteristics Jaguar will also employ an all-wheel drive system that uses torque vectoring. A similar system to this has already been developed in the all-wheel drive F-Type and juggles power delivery to each wheel according to traction levels to ensure optimal performance.

Jaguar is also well known for its fine-tuning of power steering systems and it seems that the F-Pace will be no different. The electric power-assisted steering system is calibrated to respond to the smallest input and according to engineers will give the driver "exceptional feedback".

Anything else?

Although the debut of the Jaguar F-Type is less than a month away the development of this new SUV continues unabated, both in the real world and digitally. Jaguar's development team includes a Vehicle Dynamics Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) team that analyse and simulate different parameters of the car to evaluate and speed up the development process.
