Orders open for SpaceX-powered Tesla Roadster that can fly or suck itself to the ground

In a spectacular reveal event last night, Elon Musk revealed the long-awaited Tesla Roadster and, as he promised, it uses SpaceX technology in the form of cold-air thrusters to allow it perform, frankly, ridiculous manoeuvres, including actual flight. It can also suck itself to the ground for stability and cornering speeds, while hitting 100km/h from rest in about one second. Apparently it goes into production in 2028. "Actually," said Musk at the unveiling. You can go on the Tesla Ireland website now and place a reservation deposit for one of three different versions.

Dave nearly tripped over the diminutive Fiat Multiplina concept at the Paris Motor Show, but it's arguably just as important as the huge Multiplay concept overshadowing it on the stand. Apparently, racing against other cars isn't confrontational enough, so Asphalt Legends has teamed up with Tekken 8 to introduce a fighting mode. Yeah, in cars… From 14 October to 10 November, players can take on bosses in knockout battles, complete with health bars and best-of-three rounds. There are character-inspired liveries for the Apollo IE, Peugeot Onyx and Pagani Huayra R, plus a Nissan 370Z and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X dressed for the occasion. Seven Tekken 8 tracks add to the atmosphere. We once were Tekken regulars, but we have no idea what this is all about. Soz.

Ineos Grenadier Helmsman brings nautical theme to 4x4 range for €139,995

Ineos has revealed the Grenadier Helmsman, a nautical-themed special edition for the 2027 model year and the first in a planned series “inspired by the elements.” Available as a Station Wagon or Quartermaster pick-up, it features exclusive badging, black exterior detailing, 17-inch diamond-cut wheels and heated leather seats with oyster-coloured inserts. Buyers can choose from three paint colours, including the striking Whiteout Blue metallic, previously reserved for bespoke models. In Ireland, the Helmsman edition costs from €139,995.

One-off Maserati GT2 Stradale pays tribute to MC12 legend

Maserati will display a one-off GT2 Stradale alongside the legendary MC12 at the Villa La Massa Excellence concours near Florence from 16-18 October this week. Created through its Fuoriserie personalisation programme, the 640hp GT2 Stradale supercar wears metallic Blu Victory paint, white Trident graphics and racing number 33, referencing the MC12's motorsport success. The latter claimed 22 race victories and 14 titles between 2004 and 2010. Former Maserati racing driver Andrea Bertolini even signed the bespoke car's engine bay. Any excuse for a gallery.

Dubai Police add Lamborghini Temerario to supercar fleet

Dubai Police have added a Lamborghini Temerario to their extraordinary patrol fleet, which has previously included a Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari FF, Aston Martin One-77 and Lamborghini Aventador. The latest recruit packs a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 and three electric motors producing 920hp, enough for 0-100km/h in 2.7 seconds. It joins the more recent Lamborghini Urus Performante in the force's distinctive green-and-white livery. However, don't expect high-speed pursuits: these supercars are primarily deployed in tourist hotspots to engage with visitors and promote the police's public image.

DeLorean reveals flying car of the future. Sort of...

It's taken a little longer than Doc Brown might have hoped, but DeLorean is finally going racing in the sky.

The company has announced its entry into the Airspeeder International Series, which pits electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft against each other on three-dimensional racecourses. The DeLorean Airspeeder Team will debut in November, with a new aircraft planned for 2027-28.

Design details and pilots are still to be announced, but we're hoping for gullwing doors, a flux capacitor and a top speed of precisely 88mph.
