DPD West has taken delivery of 10 fully electric Renault Master vans from JJ Burke Car Sales in Ballinrobe, Co Mayo. The new vehicles will handle core collection and delivery routes for the Galway and Mayo depot, moving a significant share of daily operations to zero-emission transport.
The handover took place at JJ Burke Renault in Ballinrobe, where representatives from both businesses marked the start of the rollout. The dealership supplied the vans and will provide ongoing support for the fleet as it enters service across the west.
“This is a proud day for JJ Burke and a big moment for sustainable transport in the west,” said Joseph Burke, Director, JJ Burke Car Sales. “We're delighted to support DPD West with a robust, fully electric solution that cuts emissions while meeting the realities of daily routes across Galway and Mayo.”
DPD says the switch forms part of its national sustainability programme, with the Galway and Mayo depot now running electric on key routes. JJ Burke Car Sales, a main Renault and Dacia dealer, will back the deployment with servicing and fleet support as the vans go into daily use.
The dealership says its focus for fleet customers is to make the transition practical, covering vehicle specification, charging plans and aftersales support so the vans can be put to work immediately.
The move reflects growing interest in electric vans for 'last-mile' deliveries, particularly where vehicles return to base and can be charged on a set schedule.
Summing up the change for the depot, Mattie Heneghan, owner of DPD Galway, said: “Going fully electric is a major step forward for our depot and our customers. JJ Burke have been fantastic partners from specifying the vans to arranging driver handovers and aftersales support.”
