My working week: Dave Humphreys

Monday January 27

This week is looking to be a busy one despite the fact that I'm staying in the country. Lots of car testing planned as I drop back the spacious Fiat 500L and collect the first of two Skodas (and continuing the space theme) - the new Rapid Spaceback. I drove this at its international launch late last year and loved it, so I'm quite looking forward to spending some more substantial time with it this week.

Tuesday January 28

Picked up the second Skoda that I'll be testing, one that is slightly different to my other test car. The petrol-fuelled Octavia RS looks the part with its red paintwork and black alloys; hopefully I'll enjoy this one a little more than I did the diesel version. Just couldn't really gel with it. A drive from Automotive Team in Sandyford (our second home) into town reveals that this Octavia RS is a very different kettle of fish. I think we'll gel very well.

Wednesday January 29

Early start with lots to do today so vast amounts of coffee will be called for. Sorting through some of the last clippings of work I find a feature on my visit to the secretive design studios at MINI. Reminded me of what an interesting day that was, despite all the secrecy!

Thursday January 30

As today is one of the few days recently that it hasn't been chucking it down, myself and Shane head out with a few test cars to get some photography done. First up is the Peugeot 308, which really is quite attractive, especially inside. Also in the viewfinder is the Fiat Panda 4x4, which, when driven like an Italian is a bit of a hoot.

Friday January 31

As the Rapid Spaceback goes back, I replace it with a SEAT Leon FR with the range-topping 184hp 2.0-litre TDI engine for the weekend. Discreet and a bit nippy for a diesel, plenty of driving to do this weekend will see just how good it is. Will also be paying a visit to Cars & Coffee Dublin, which is usually an excellent source of very pretty vehicles to admire.
