News round-up - April 12, 2011

Published on April 12, 2011

It's been a bit of a busy day here at CompleteCar.ie. I headed into TV3's studio first thing for a brief chat on Ireland AM about new laws that will affect learner drivers in Ireland. If you missed it, you can see the slot here. More detail is given in our news story though: Six penalty points will put new drivers off the road.

Along the same theme, the RSA (and others) launched a new awareness campaign yesterday relating to driving on motorways. Although they're by far our safest roads there appears to be a lack of understanding of the rules regarding them and it's leading to unnecessary deaths and injuries. It's a worthwhile campaign that hopefully will help lift our general driving standards. Read the full article here: Motorway safety campaign launched.

After all that seriousness our news hound Al Suttie wrote a batch of articles with a (mostly) lighter theme. Audi features prominently, with an Audi-designed snow sled, a 735hp tuned R8 and a sneak peek at Audi's own R8 GT Spyder.

And there's more... Mercedes fans will love the bonkers SLR McLaren Mercedes by edo competition, while sensible fat cats (is that an oxymoron?) will appreciate the cleaner, and possibly cheaper Mercedes-Benz S 350 BlueTec with stop-start.

To finish it all off there's a new land speed record for electric superbikes and a 'bus' that can supposedly do 250km/h. That's it below.

That fella is a Dutch astronaut or something. Explains it all, huh?

Anyway, to get full details on all of the above go to our News Page and have a look around.
