Introduction to the 2025 Peugeot E-5008 Dual Motor GT
The E-5008 is the battery powered Peugeot you buy if you've over-subscribed on the offspring front. The E-5008 is almost unique in the car market; in that it offers all-electric power (in addition to hybrid and eventually plug-in hybrid options) with seats for seven at a relatively reasonable price. Most rivals to the E-5008 have prices that start with a seven...
However, Peugeot has found a way to get you to pay extra for an E-5008, by offering this new range-topping Dual Motor GT four-wheel-drive version. It gets more performance, at only a relatively small cost to range, and still offers lots of space inside. Is it the right solution for growing families who need some all-weather, all-terrain capability?
Pros & Cons of the 2025 E-5008 Dual Motor GT
Pros: Handsome looks, room, powerful punch, refinement
Cons: Not as good to drive as the E-3008 Dual Motor
Exterior & Design of the 2025 Peugeot E-5008 Dual Motor GT
• Almost identical looking to standard model
• Handsome lines
• Smart new 20-inch wheels
The E-5008 Dual Motor, as with its E-3008 equivalent, doesn't look any different on the outside when compared to the standard front-drive and hybrid versions. Indeed, the only exterior differences are the subtle Dual Motor badge on the back and the good-looking 20-inch wheels. Then again, the idea of having high-performance punch in a car that appears, from the outside, to be ordinary has long been an appealing one.
The E-5008 is of course bigger than the E-3008, and its overall dimensions are:
Length: 4,790mm
Width: 1,890mm
Height: 1,690mm
Wheelbase: 2,900mm
These figures reveal the E-5008 isn't all that much taller than the E-3008, which might come as something of a surprise. However, the roof extends back much further than in the E-3008, and the wheelbase is around 200mm longer, which lends the E-5008 Dual Motor a crucial advantage...
Interior, Practicality, Tech & Comfort of the 2025 Peugeot E-5008 Dual Motor GT
• Stylish, high-quality cabin
• Lots of space in the middle row
• Some boot space lost to the extra motor
As with the E-3008 Dual Motor, and as with the exterior of both cars, there are only the subtlest hints inside the E-5008 that this is the most powerful, range-topping model. There's a lengthy glass sunroof as standard, some nicer trim for the - wonderfully comfortable - seats and a high-end Focal stereo which has excellent sound quality.
Up front, you get the same sweeping screen layout, which combines the instrument panel and the infotainment screen in a wide but shallow layout that seems to float on top of the dashboard. It's set off by a backlit panel that runs behind the dash, and into the tops of the front doors, which shines blue in Normal driving mode, or Peugeot Motorsport's signature Lime Green in the Sport setting.
There are useful - and usefully large - lidded storage boxes on the centre console, and good door bins, although the glovebox is quite small, even though it has a large lid which makes it awkward to open if the front-seat passenger has long legs.
The whole reason for buying this E-5008 Dual Motor over the more affordable E-3008 version is, of course, the space inside and with a 200mm longer wheelbase, the E-5008 Dual Motor offers copious legroom in the back.
Headroom is OK, not spectacular, as the need to package the sun blind for the big glass roof impinges a little. There aren't three individual rear seats in the middle row, as there were in the previous-generation 5008, but the seat backs do at least split and fold in three sections for maximum flexibility, and the bases slide back and forth a little allowing you to juggle legroom and luggage room.
The outer two rear seats include ISOFIX anchors, and are comfortable, while the centre rear seat is narrower but still useable.
The third row of seats is a little compromised, as is so often the case with SUV-shaped seven-seaters. It's slightly tricky for larger passengers to get in there, and if they do, they'll find legroom and foot space at a premium, although headroom is OK. You'll have to slide the middle row forward a bit to fit anyone other than primary schoolers in row three, and it's a shame that there are no ISOFIX points back there.
Fold row three flat, and there's an extremely useful 748 litres of luggage space up to the luggage cover, even if that's some 55 litres down on the front-wheel-drive E-5008. Likewise, with all seats in use, luggage space shrinks to 209 litres.
Performance of the 2025 Peugeot E-5008 Dual Motor GT
• Senior performance for a big family car
• Lacks the sporty feel of the E-3008 Dual Motor
• Ride too firm at times
While the E-3008 Dual Motor genuinely surprised us with how much sportier it feels to drive, compared to the standard front-wheel-drive version, especially its much sharper steering, the E-5008 Dual Motor feel more like business as usual.
Peugeot hasn't gone to quite the same lengths as it has with the E-3008 here, so the steering of the E-5008 Dual Motor feels much the same - light, quick, somewhat over-assisted - as it does in the standard model. Perhaps that's the right balance though; family buyers are unlikely to be looking for back-road handling precision and verve.
The suspension has been uprated somewhat to cope with the 90kg of extra weight carried by the Dual Motor model, and like the E-3008 that does mean a sometimes lumpy low-speed ride quality. It smooths out nicely once you're up to cruising speed, though, and the E-5008 is notably refined and comfortable. There's truly little in the way of wind or tyre noise.
What really impresses is the performance. With 325hp and 509Nm pushing 2.3 tonnes around, you'd not expect all that much oomph, but the way the E-5008 punches through the mid-range is really good.
It's especially good at providing those much-needed bursts of 80-120km/h acceleration to merge smoothly with a fast-flowing motorway, and if nothing else that will make long journeys with the family that bit more relaxing.
Do you really need a seven-seat family car with sports car punch? Not really, but it's nice to have, and the all-wheel drive lends you tremendous confidence when the weather turns and the road starts to get slippery.
Range, Battery & Charging of the 2025 Peugeot E-5008 Dual Motor
• Official range is 467km
• Impressively economical in reality
• Same 73kWh battery as front-drive model
The Peugeot E-5008 Dual Motor uses the same 73kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt lithium-ion battery pack as the standard front-wheel-drive model. It's possible that, at some point, it could be upgraded to the incoming new long-range 98kWh battery but as that battery is still only gearing up for a delayed production start, it's likely that it is some way off.
With the extra weight and power of the Dual Motor setup, it's no surprise that the E-5008 sees its theoretical range trimmed from 502km for the front-drive version, to 467km here. However, that doesn't tell the whole story as on our (admittedly brief) test drive, which included mountain roads, crowded city streets and a lengthy motorway run, we managed to average energy consumption of just 15.8kWh/100km, some 3kWh/100km better than Peugeot's official WLTP energy consumption.
OK, so that may have been a lucky result based on a relatively short route, but we'd expect that in real-world conditions the E-5008 Dual Motor should manage around 400-420km range on one charge.
The battery charges at up to 11kW on three-phase AC power, meaning that if you plugged it in when flat, it would be fully charged in about seven hours. From a home wallbox (7.4kW), a full charge takes around ten hours. The E-5008 Dual Motor can charge at up to 160kW on DC power, so a 20-80 per cent charge takes as little as 30 minutes.
Running Costs of the 2025 Peugeot E-5008 Dual Motor GT
• Efficiency makes for low running costs
• Won't be expensive to service
• Eight-year warranty on the battery
With quoted WLTP energy consumption of 18.8kWh/100km, the E-5008 Dual Motor is officially less efficient than the standard front-wheel-drive version with the same battery, but as we've noted from our experience on test, it can beat that figure in some circumstances, and so there's potential for impressively low running costs - if you're reasonably careful.
The 73kWh battery can be, potentially, topped up for as little as €8 depending on what sort of home electricity tariff you're on, which equates to under two cents per kilometre rate if you can match that potential 420km real-world range figure.
There are other benefits, of course. EVs need less intensive servicing than combustion-engined cars, so while there will be main-dealer costs to pay if you're staying within the Peugeot network for maintenance, there won't be outlays on as oil changes and filters, nor spark plugs along the way, although you may find you get through tyres a little more quickly.
In Europe, Peugeot offers a full eight-year warranty for both the car and the battery, but in Ireland - for now - that's split into five years for the car, and eight years (or 160,000km) for the battery. That's a shame, but it's expected that the eight-year cover will be introduced here at some point.
Irish Pricing & Rivals of the 2025 Peugeot E-5008 Dual Motor GT
• Irish prices not confirmed yet
• Likely to be close to €60,000
• That still undercuts key competitors
Irish pricing for the E-5008 Dual Motor has not yet been set, and probably won't be until much later this year, as it won't arrive in dealerships here until the end of 2025, or possibly into early 2026.
That price is likely to be close to €60,000, which is a lot of money, although notably it's quite a bit less than you'd pay for some key electric seven-seat competitors. Even so, the E-5008 Dual Motor is likely to only occupy a small niche in the Irish car market, as few families will want to spend extra on the four-wheel drive at the expense of range - even if the running costs can potentially be kept down to a reasonable level.
On top of the usual well-equipped GT trim level, the Dual Motor model adds a ten-speaker Focal hi-fi, an opening glass panoramic sunroof, diamond-cut 20-inch alloy wheels and upgraded trim and upholstery for the seats.
Verdict - Should You Buy the 2025 Peugeot E-5008 Dual Motor GT?
There's an unquestionable appeal in a big, roomy, comfortable family car such as this being given four-wheel drive and seriously punchy performance, and in that sense the E-5008 Dual Motor is a properly discreet 'Q-car'.
The E-5008 is also impressively relaxed and calming to drive but given its likely price, it's probably not the one to go for. The smaller E-3008 Dual Motor makes a compelling case for itself thanks to it being considerably sportier to drive than the standard version. In the case of the E-5008, the benefits are more marginal, and so you'd probably be better off with the longer-range front-wheel-drive version.
FAQs About the 2025 Peugeot E-5008 Dual Motor GT
What is the range of the Peugeot E-5008?
Front-wheel-drive versions of the E-5008 have an official range of up to 502km, with around 440km doable in real-world conditions. This Dual Motor version tops out at an official 467km, but we reckon that with a little care, 420km is doable.
How fast can the E-5008 charge?
With 160kW of DC charging power available, the E-5008 can charge from 20-80 per cent battery level in as little as 30 minutes. On AC power, such as at home on a 7.4kW wallbox charger, you're looking at more like ten hours to go from flat to full.
How safe is the Peugeot E-5008?
The E-5008 scored a four-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, which basically comes down to some of the more exotic electronic safety systems only being fitted as standard to higher-spec versions. The E-5008 scored an 82 per cent rating for adult occupant protection, 85 per cent for child occupants, 79 per cent for vulnerable road user protection (an impressive figure for a big SUV) and 62 per cent for its active safety systems.
