Manhart tuning creates a 450hp boost for the Toyota coupe.

The Toyota Supra, in all its previous forms, was fertile ground for tuning and high-performance companies, and seeing as the new one uses a lot of BMW mechanical parts, that makes it ripe for the plucking by our favourite people in the world - German tuners.

Engine boosted to 450hp

One such is Manhart, which normally tweaks and boosts BMWs, but seeing as the Supra uses a 3.0-litre turbo B58B30 engine, it means that the same tweaks that work for the (related) Z4 will also do the job here.

What Manhart has created is this, the Supra GR450. As the name suggests, the straight-six's power output has been boosted from a standard 340hp to a more robust 450hp. Torque is also well up - from a standard 500Nm to a far more imposing 650Nm.

Some of that is down to electronic tweaking, some of it thanks to more traditional, oily methods. The Supra GR450 makes use of an MHtronik powerbox or an ECU remap, and a stainless steel rear silencer with valve control. The exhaust tailpipe trims are available either in black or carbon fibre. The valves in the silencer can make the exhaust do the whole go-louder thing, and are controlled by a button on the Supra's steering wheel.

Catalytic converter and GPF delete options?

Now, rather more worryingly, Manhart will also optionally remove the catalytic convertor. That's specifically for 'export or motorsport applications' but in general removing the cat is a bad idea, so please don't try that one at home, kids. They'll also take out the GPF (Gasoline Particulate Filter) which - again - is a really bad idea.

Lower centre of gravity

Thankfully, there are better ideas in the suspension department, where the GR450 can be equipped with either H&R or a KW Variant 3 coilover suspension with special, in-house tuning which Manhart says lowers the Supra's centre of gravity (which was already pretty low-down to begin with).

On the visual front, there are special Manhart vinyl packs that add 'various decorative stripes and accent lines in red.' The wheels are double-spoke Manhart Concave One alloys, which have a diamond polished finish, and come in 20-inch diameter. You can optionally have those in glossy or matte black as well.
