BMW wants people to submit car designs during Easter… using materials found only within the home.

With the coronavirus crisis rumbling on and the whole world worried about what will happen next, as well as the obvious concerns of keeping safe and healthy, it's nice to have some light relief from the drama for a while. So BMW has recognised that this Easter, we're all going to need cheering up a bit; as a result, it has come up with a festive challenge - design a car, using only items you can find at home.

Use the old laundry

A competition is launching across BMW's social media feeds (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, in the main) on Friday, April 10. Design the best possible car you can, using only items you can find within your own household. Well, we have all got to keep practising social distancing and self-isolation, when all's said and done.

BMW will accept entries that are drawn on paper, or built out of boxes, or even ones which incorporate huge piles of laundry. You need to then take photos of your masterpiece and reply to the company's Twitter or Facebook posts that will go live on April 10 with a picture of them, or alternatively upload them to Instagram and tag them with #homemadeBMW. After a judging process, five lucky winners with the most creative ideas will win some BMW prizes.

Beyond the car-designing challenge for Easter, the German car giant has some more ideas. Look up BMW Education, an award-winning educational resource for primary and secondary school students, which focuses on road safety and sustainability. It incorporates a tool called i-Living, which helps pupils to research topics such as urbanisation, energy usage and sustainable design.

Meanwhile, BMW Colouring Pictures for Kids (and grown-ups too, if you feel like it) have been uploaded to the BMW website. Various models and concepts are included, while more challenging designs based on the E30 M3 DTM and the current M8 are available too. There are even some printable BMW Board Games, such as 'The Big BMW Race', 'Park Your BMW' and 'Find The Pair'. To play, all you need is a printer, a pair of scissors and a dice.

Visit the BMW website for the printable stuff, and check out BMW Facebook, BMW Twitter or alternatively BMW UK Twitter, BMW YouTube, BMW Instagram and BMW LinkedIn.
