New flagship Kia Sorento SUV boasts ‘refined boldness’.

Ahead of its public debut at the 2020 Geneva motor show, the new Kia Sorento has been revealed. As we don't get the Kia Telluride in Europe, the Sorento crowns the Korean car maker's SUV range here, which also includes the Sportage and Stonic. Now into its fourth generation, the new Sorento is built on an all-new platform that will mostly include at least one electrified variant.

The nose of the car shifts away from the familiar Kia design that is known as the tiger nose. Now the grille is larger and fully integrates the headlights. Those headlights now features something Kia's designers call 'tiger eye', which is a fancy way of saying it has a snazzy LED daytime running light which is said to depict the intense impression of the lines around a tiger's eyes. Perhaps they need to be reminded that this is an SUV. Other design flourishes include a chrome trim element below the A-pillar that joins the wing and front door.

Improved proportions give the Kia Sorento a better look

When viewed in side profile it's clear to see how the new proportions alter the overall look of the Kia Sorento. In order to improve passenger space inside the wheelbase has grown, but designers have also shifted the position of the A-pillars rearwards by 30mm to give the Sorento a more cab rearward design.

What may surprise buyers more is the noticeable uplift in cabin design and quality. The mostly digital dashboard is made up of a large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster similar to that which can be found in other models like the XCeed. Next to that is a broad 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with various climate controls below that are braced by vents on either side.

The new Kia Sorento retains its three rows of seats and the company says that the cabin quality is one of its most sophisticated and best yet. Judging by the first few images of it there is clearly a move to a more premium finish with nicer materials. More details, including engine variants, will be announced when the car makes its official public debut on March 3, at the Geneva motor show.
