F1 - NASCAR swap

Lewis Hamilton is to swap his F1 car for a NASCAR racer.

Oil manufacturer Mobil 1 will bring the worlds of Formula 1 and NASCAR together in an organised car swap between 2008 F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton and double NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion, Tony Stewart.

On the 14th of June, Hamilton will trade in his McLaren MP4-23 F1 car for Stewart's No.14 Mobil 1/Office Depot Chevrolet Impala.

Speaking of the swap Hamilton said: "Tony and I will have some fun with the swap and make sure we put on a good show. American race fans are massively enthusiastic about motorsports, so I hope to see a lot of them down at The Glen to see it firsthand.

"It's a racer's circuit and will give us both the chance to understand the differences between the two styles of racing at this legendary track" said Hamilton.
The track has a special significance for McLaren since the team won its first Drivers' and Constructors' Championship there with Emerson Fittipaldi, in 1974.

Although Mobil 1 and McLaren have been partners since 1995, Mobil's relationship with Stewart-Hass (who run Stewart's NASCSAR) is a season in the making.

"When you've been around competitive racing for as long as I have, you really look forward to new experiences," said Stewart.

"This car swap with Lewis is definitely one of those opportunities. I already have quite a bit of respect for what Lewis and the F1 drivers and teams do, so to experience laps in the cockpit of a F1 car and see what Lewis can do in the Cup car is something I am really excited about."
