All-new EV-platform based Nissan Ariya Concept: is this the next Qashqai?

Nissan has confirmed that, among its line-up for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2020 in Las Vegas will be this all-new, electric vehicle (EV) - which is it calling the Ariya Concept.

The next Qashqai?

Extrapolation is always healthy in these kinds of situations and the Ariya could be showcasing the look of the next Nissan Qashqai, as there's more than a hint of stylistic similarity between the CES-bound concept car and the recently launched Juke.

Nissan says that the Ariya Concept brings together several advanced technologies on an all-new EV platform. The zero-emission crossover is said to embody Nissan Intelligent Mobility, which presumably means it has some form of self-driving features and almost certainly a suite of top-end communications apps, so that it can talk to the road infrastructure grid and other networked cars.

ZE ice creams

Also on Nissan's CES stand will be a zero-emission ice-cream van, which bypasses that problem of this sort of vehicle having to sit with a diesel engine idling while dispensing its frosty array of treats, a booth-wide sense of 'omotenashi' (or true Japanese hospitality), a golf ball that will guide itself to the hole (using Nissan's ProPilot 2.0 advanced driver assistance technology), the Formula E race car from the company, acoustic 'meta'-materials that will improve cabin quietness/ride quality on forthcoming Nissan products, and the latest Leaf e+ zero-emissions hatchback.

CES takes place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 7-10, 2020.
