Packs 'tailored to specific lifestyle needs' for new Aston Martin SUV.

Aston Martin still isn't - quite - prepared to show us its first-ever SUV, the DBX, but it is willing to talk to us about the accessory packs that can be bought with the car.

Now, stop that sniggering at the back - accessory packs may not sound like the most important thing of all, but they gives us a few clues as to how the DBX will work (much like a regular high-performance SUV we guess) and to whom it will be marketed.

To judge from the accessory packs, the 'who' in question will be very wealthy people who like skiing or water sports.

Snow pack comes with heated boot

The DBX will be available with 11 special packs of accessories, each tailored to a different lifestyle or leisure pursuit. Take the Snow Pack, for example. This comes with exactly what you might expect - a ski bag, roof-mounted ski rack and snow chains. But it also comes with a few interesting other twists, such as a boot warmer, for toasting up your clothes before you put them on (or drying them out afterwards). According to Aston: "In the same way that DBX's heated seats - offered as standard - are a cosy delight when climbing into the car on a cold morning, the boot warmer makes the first ski run of the day that little bit more pleasurable."

Or you might prefer the Touring kit, which is designed for those wanting to take their DBX on long holiday drives. This includes a fitted luggage set, with four or six pieces; cabin 'saddle' bags (for grabbing smaller items on the go); a lockable storage box under the front passenger seat; and a first aid kit.

Pet protection pack

Being as this is the first Aston Martin (bar the gorgeous coach-built Radford Shooting Brakes based on the DB5 and DB6 models back in the sixties) into which you could happily load your dog, the DBX will be available with a Pet kit. This includes bumper protector (to prevent scratches from 'scrabbling claws') and a portable washer for hosing Fido down. The Pet kit also gives us a teaser of some of the DBX's technical data - the boot will be a very roomy 632 litres.

Then there's the Essentials pack, which Aston Martin has refrained from calling the Kids pack. Why? Because it's clearly been designed to protect the inside of your precious DBX from child assaults... "The Essentials Pack bundles together useful accessories like a centre console organiser, a rear seat entertainment holder and a heated cup," according to Aston Martin. "If the school run is likely to be particularly rowdy, then the Essentials Pack could be paired with the Interior Protection Pack, which provides seat covers, a rear bumper protector and all-weather mats throughout the car."

Picnic hamper and umbrella

Far more serene activities will be perfectly accompanied by the Events pack, which includes a picnic hamper, picnic blanket, and 'event seating' (folding chairs). Being as Aston Martin is a British brand, it also includes an umbrella, working on the assumption that if you're going to pack a picnic hamper, it's going to rain.

There will be other, individual, options such as illuminated tread plates, polished carbon fibre tail pipe finishers and valve caps with Aston Martin wings, to larger options for carrying bicycles or surf boards on the roof. Aston Martin will also offer a variety of child-friendly accessories, including three special-edition Maxi-Cosi child and baby seats. All are recommended for use with Aston Martin's official 3wayFix ISOFIX base, trimmed in leather and are available for use with babies (45-75cm), toddlers (67-105cm) and children (15-36kg).

Aston Martin Lagonda President and Group CEO, Dr. Andy Palmer, said: "From the outset it was envisaged that DBX would become an integral part of customers' everyday lives. With the lifestyle packs I think we have been able to ensure that DBX is a vehicle that not only enables but also enhances experiences."
