Petrol-electric plug-in hybrid for Peugeot 508 and 508 SW line-up.

Following on from its announcement recently of the 3008 Hybrid4, now Peugeot has added two plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models to the 508 family.

Low emissions, big boots

Available in both saloon and SW estate forms, the 508 Hybrid teams a 180hp PureTech four-cylinder petrol engine to an 80kW (110hp) electric motor, leading to a drivetrain maximum output of 225hp - matching the existing 508 GT models. Power goes to the front wheels only, through an e-EAT8 automatic gearbox, this being the drivetrain that will follow the Hybrid4 300hp set-up that will debut in the 3008.
Peugeot says the 508 and 508 SW Hybrid twins emit just 29g/km of CO2, with a pure-electric range of 54km for the saloon and 52km for the SW. An 11.8kWh battery can be recharged in less than one-and-three-quarter hours on a 7.4kW/32-amp wallbox. Peugeot reckons business users will be able to drive 65 per cent of an annual mileage of 30,000km in hybrid mode, with the other 35 per cent done in zero-emissions EV mode. The French firm also claims that the boot space is identical to 508/SW models with internal combustion engines - so 487 litres on the saloon and 530 litres on the SW.
