New Volkswagen Passat at Ploughing Championships

New Volkswagen Passat at Ploughing Championships
Ploughing Championships debut for updated Volkswagen Passat.

Volkswagen will show off its updated Passat at the Ploughing Championships this year. The Ploughing has long been the de facto Irish motor show, with importers and manufacturers keen to show off their wares to the farming community, not to mention the thousands of casual fans who flock to the show each year.

13 passenger cars on display

This year, Volkswagen will have no fewer than 13 passenger car models on display at the Ploughing. That will include its largest-ever line-up of SUVs, from the small T-Cross, through the T-Roc and Tiguan and on up to the massive Touareg.

Passat diesel, petrol, and plug-in hybrid

The Passat will be the newest car there, though, and it will be on show in three forms: petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid. Also on show on the battery front will be the e-Golf, a car that will, in pretty short order, be superseded by the incoming 500km-range ID 3 hatchback, but one which Volkswagen is currently offering special PCP deals on - buy an e-Golf now and Volkswagen will offer you a two-year PCP, meaning you can upgrade to a new ID 3 that much sooner.

Grand California camper van

Volkswagen's commercial vehicle arm will be out in force, unsurprisingly, with the recently-updated Transporter van, the Amarok pickup truck, the large Crafter van and the compact Caddy. Also on display, and sure to be popular if the weather takes a turn for the worse, will be the new Grand California - an XXL camper van version of the vast Crafter van, which comes with sleeping berths for four, cooking space and - crucially lacking from the smaller Transporter-based California - its own on-board toilet.

Speaking of bad weather, if the rain does come down (as it so often does at the Ploughing), Volkswagen will be offering Volkswagen-branded ponchos to visitors to its stand.

Oh, and keep an eye out - Volkswagen is promising that along with the line-up already revealed, it's planning one or two 'surprises' on its stand. Stay tuned, we guess...
