New Ultimate Series McLaren teased

Pebble Beach reveal for open-cockpit two-seater roadster McLaren Ultimate Series model.

McLaren is going to reveal an all-new Ultimate Series supercar at the Pebble Beach Concours event, the machine said to focus on the 'exhilaration of pure, open-top driving'.

Road-focused driving pleasure

The as-yet-unnamed McLaren, which will sit in an exalted lineage which includes the P1, Senna and Speedtail, will be a two-seat, open-cockpit roadster.

Limited to just 399 examples worldwide, the newcomer - while an Ultimate Series Macca - will not be a track-focused, but instead aims to offer the 'purest distillation of road-focused driving pleasure and an unrivalled sense of driver connection with the surrounding environment'. It will feature dihedral doors, as befits any good McLaren, and will have a carbon-fibre construction that, it is said, makes it the lightest car ever produced by McLaren Automotive. Power will come from the 4.0-litre biturbo V8 petrol engine

'Constantly pushing the boundaries'

Mike Flewitt, McLaren's CEO, said: "At McLaren Automotive, we are consistently pushing the boundaries to deliver the purest and most engaging driving experience, whether for the road or track. Our two current ultimate series cars, the Senna and Speedtail, offer unique and distinct driving experiences. Now this new addition to the Ultimate Series, an open-cockpit roadster, will take road-focused driving pleasure to new levels."

The new Ultimate Series McLaren is scheduled to hit the market in late 2020, with its price sitting between the €820,500 and €2.3 million (excluding taxes) prices of the Senna and Speedtail. McLaren will take expressions of interest from customers over the course of this year's Pebble Beach Concours.
