Volvo issues worldwide recall for fire risk

Approximately 6,000 vehicles in Ireland affected.

Volvo has announced that it is starting a worldwide recall affecting specific models in most of its model range. In total around 507,000 vehicles are affected by a faulty engine component. Volvo investigators say that "in very rare cases the plastic engine intake manifold may melt and deform", leading to the potential risk of fire in extreme cases. Of that number, Volvo Cars Ireland says that approximately 6,000 vehicles in Ireland are subject to the recall notice.

Models in latest Volvo recall notice

The Volvo models are those with the four-cylinder diesel engine built between 2014 and 2019. These models include S80, S60, V70, XC70, S60CC, V60, XC60, V60CC, S90, V90, V90CC, XC90, V40, V40CC. Volvo Cars Ireland has begun the process of contacting customers by letter to inform them of the potential issue, what to look for and advice on what to do.

Currently, it is a voluntary recall and Volvo has advised that if owners notice anything abnormal or unusual about their car's engine operation, even without any warning lights, such as lack of power or engine interruption to contact their local Volvo dealer. If they detect any unusual smell, they should stop safely and contact Volvo Assistance or their recovery agent.

Owners of cars covered under this voluntary recall will not incur any cost in having this work rectified. If you are unsure whether your vehicle is one of those affected, it is advised that you check with your local Volvo dealer, even if you did not originally purchase the vehicle new.
