Cupra teases third product: an EV SUV

Due to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, newest Cupra vehicle is a pure-electric coupe-crossover.

This is our first sneak peek at the likely third product in the burgeoning Cupra range. Following on from the high-performance petrol Ateca and the Formentor plug-in hybrid revealed earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, this is an all-electric Cupra that will make its debut at the Frankfurt Show in September.

It's another SUV...

No name for the third Cupra as yet and no clear view of it, this glimpse of its rear (and reflected silhouette) showing off its coupe roofline, a full-width rear light strip... and yes, the stance and proportions of an SUV. That mean's SEAT's performance brand has, so far, given us three SUVs and crossovers, which won't please the purists.

It's another SUV...

There are no details as yet on this Cupra Concept's drivetrain, save to say it makes do without any sort of a combustion engine and so is the first road-going Cupra to be all electric. All the Spanish company will say about its Frankfurt Show star is that the exterior 'mixes uniqueness and sophistication, bringing athletic proportions and a new kind of energy to the segment', while simultaneously extolling the virtues of its electric nature; for example, with no need for exhausts, the rear diffuser takes up the whole of the car and provides functional aerodynamic benefits.
