Mugen to show 200hp CR-Z

The Honda CR-Z is to get a supercharged makeover.

Honda has confirmed that its Mugen-tuned CR-Z hybrid coupé will come with a supercharger to supplement its 1.5-litre petrol engine and create 200hp.

The hybrid power plant remains intact, but the supercharger is added to force feed the engine for more power. Mugen says the CR-Z will have "around 200PS", the same power as Civic Type-R. The CR-Z will also come with 245Nm of shove, which should help make the lightweight coupé very quick.

Mugen's Colin Whittamore said: "A supercharger allows us extra power and torque and gives a smooth, integrated and powerful driving experience."

As well as the upgrades to the engine, Mugen has uprated the chassis with adjustable shock absorbers, wider front and rear track, and a reduction in kerb weight. Larger brakes and Mugen 17-inch alloy wheels finish off the mechanical package, while a new body kit and spoilers complete the exterior look.

The Mugen-tuned Honda CR-Z will make its first appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England this July though Mugen says the car is a one-off and there are no plans for a production version.
