What's the news?

Cannonball Ireland is aiming to capitalise on a resurgence in the trendiness of the road trip with an all-new, classic-themed run this summer.

The Retro Cannonball Classic Run, sponsored by Teng Tools USA, will take place on July 12-13 and will begin at Kinsale, Co. Cork, and will run through the Healy Pass, Kenmare, Moll's Gap, Inch Beach, Dingle, Slea Head, the Conor Pass and Tralee, before ending up at Bunratty Castle, Co. Clare.

Cars from the 1960s until the 1990s are welcome to take part, while Cannonball Ireland is promising an 'adrenalin-fuelled festival atmosphere that Cannonball is renowned for', as well as adventure, luxury, breathtaking scenery and unforgettable experiences. So far, Cannonball Ireland has - since it formed in 2008 - raised €1,016,000 for Irish charities and it attracts more than 19,000 spectators to its main event in September every year. Further road trips are held internationally, in places like the UK, Europe and America, while the organisation's partner charity in 2019 is the Irish Cancer Society.

Cannonball Ireland's founder, Alan Bannon, said: "The all-new Retro Cannonball Classic Run featuring cars from the '60s, '70s, '80s and early '90s takes us back to our roots when the madcap Cannonball Run movie was made. We are going all-out retro and welcoming cars from this golden era to take in stunning drives and world-famous rally routes. Classic runs are a longstanding tradition steeped in nostalgia and pop culture, and we want to add our own Cannonball twist to make this a truly unforgettable experience for both drivers and spectators alike."
