Italian coachbuilding firm Zagato is turning 100 this year and, to celebrate, Aston Martin - which has a long history of making special vehicles with Zagato - has released detailed renderings of the next entry into this hallowed canon, in the form of the DBS GT Zagato.
Based on a DBS Superleggera, the DBS GT Zagato uses design themes that hark back to the original DB4 GT Zagato, such as the double-bubble roof, which is continued down the bonnet. A wraparound windscreen aims to remove any 'hard lines' above the Aston's shoulder line, while wide rear haunches give the Zagato both muscular presence and visual definition. The Zagato is also defined by its own designs of alloy wheel, headlamps and front grille.
Intriguingly, the DBS GT Zagato will only be available to customers with an example of the 19-strong build run of DB4 GT Zagato Continuations that Aston has already confirmed, the two together known as the DBZ Centenary Collection. The price for the two cars will be around €6.93 million, excluding local taxes, and the small build numbers mean the DBS GT Zagato will become one of the rarest and most sought-after of the modern era Aston Zagatos. Deliveries of the first half of the DBZ Centenary Collection, in the form of the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation, will take place in the last quarter of this year, while the DBS GT Zagato will follow on in Q4 2020.

Speaking of the DBZ Centenary Collection, Marek Reichman, Aston Martin Lagonda's executive vice-president and chief creative officer, said: "In the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation, we have one of the world's most beautiful and instantly recognisable pieces of car design. Creating a car fit to stand alongside it was always going to be a formidable challenge, but also a great motivation. Both design teams at Aston Martin and Zagato have together risen to the task magnificently; taking the already fabulous DBS Superleggera and shaping something which retains its identity as an Aston Martin, but expresses itself as only a Zagato can. Sensational-looking and extremely rare, it is the modern incarnation of a timeless icon."
