The Volkswagen T-Cross will be available with three engine choices.

What's the news?

The Volkswagen T-Cross, the third and smallest addition to the company's SUV line-up, will go on sale in April in Ireland with prices starting at €22,495.

Buyers will have a choice of two petrol engines and one diesel, as well as automatic and manual gearboxes, and all models will be front-wheel drive.

The T-Cross has the same mechanical underpinnings as the Volkswagen Polo, but sits 138mm higher.

Depending on whether you need more rear passenger space or cargo capacity, the rear bench seat slides, varying the boot space from 385- to 455 litres. With the rear seats folded down, that boot volume increases to 1,281 litres.

The entry-level engine is a 95hp 1.0-litre petrol unit, which is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. A more powerful 115hp version of this engine will start at €24,495. This engine will come with the choice of a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission. Just one diesel engine will be offered, a 1.6-litre unit producing 115hp, and this will cost from €25,295.

Volkswagen will offer four specification grades, starting with the 'T-Cross', but it is expected that most buyers will opt for the mid-level 'Life' priced from €24,550 or 'Style', which starts at €26,795. A range-topping R-Line variant will have a starting price of €27,995.

The T-Cross 'Life' will come with 16-inch alloy wheels, eight-inch infotainment system featuring App Connect, air conditioning and adaptive cruise control.

Moving up to the 'Style' specification adds 17-inch alloys wheels, LED headlights and a chrome package.

The top-spec 'R-Line' models get specific 17-inch 'Sebring' alloy wheels and a unique styling package, but buyers can also upgrade to 18-inch wheels and an R-Line interior package.

The Volkswagen T-Cross goes on sale in Ireland in April 2019.
