Class-leading headlight tech and a fully electric version for next Opel Corsa.

What's the news?

Later this year the new Opel Corsa will make its public debut, marking the sixth generation of a car that has sold more than 13.5 million units. The full details of the next Corsa are still to be revealed, but Opel will introduce a fully electric version of it, and order books for this are due to open later this year. Confirming the news, Opel CEO, Michael Lohscheller, said: "with the new Corsa we will make electric mobility accessible to many customers - it will be a real electric car for the people."

One thing we do know about the next Opel Corsa is that it will be available with the company's latest IntelliLux LED matrix lighting. The advanced headlight system was first introduced on the 2016 Astra, and subsequently in the Opel Insignia. It works by continuously adapting the numbers of individual LEDs inside each headlight to adjust the lighting around other vehicles on the road. This process enables high beam illumination without dazzling preceding and oncoming traffic, meaning that you can see more of the road ahead.

"We have always made top technologies accessible to all. That is our mission and our motivation and it applies especially to a model that is as popular as the Opel Corsa. We will therefore equip the next generation of our bestseller with the best lighting technology - IntelliLux LED matrix headlights," said Opel CEO, Michael Lohscheller.

Although this technology already exists in other cars, this is the first time that such a system will be offered in this smaller size segment of the market. Currently, Opel sells approximately 90,000 vehicles per year that feature the IntelliLux LED matrix lighting system.

Anything else?

With Opel now being part of Groupe PSA, which also includes Peugeot and Citroen, the next Corsa will share some of the same platform technology of the forthcoming Peugeot 208, which is due to arrive during 2019, and will also spawn an electric version in time.
