Toyota Prius, Prius+ and Auris models recalled

1,289 vehicles in Ireland affected by latest Toyota recall

What's the news?

Toyota Ireland has confirmed that the latest safety recall on Toyota Prius, Prius+ and Auris hybrid models does affect some cars in Ireland.

The latest recall covers vehicles produced between October 2008 and November 2014. Toyota has said that in rare situations some vehicles could fail to switch over to a fail-safe driving model should the hybrid system develop a fault that could, in turn, lead to a loss of power and cause it to stall. The braking and steering functions would remain unaffected.

Globally the number of vehicles affected totals 2.43 million, but only 1,289 vehicles in Ireland. Toyota has said that it was not aware of the fault causing any accidents.

In a statement issued by the company, Steve Tormey, Chief Executive of Toyota Ireland said: "Toyota is committed to ensure the highest standards of safety for our customers above all else. We are dedicated to taking swift and appropriate action where necessary and seek to be completely transparent with our customers. This recall affects limited numbers of customers in Ireland, and if any customer has any queries or concerns our dealer network will be happy to address these."

Anything else?

Toyota Ireland will be making contact with all affected owners my mail to arrange to have their vehicles checked. The fix involves a software update which is carried out at no cost to the customer. If you are unsure as to whether your vehicle is one of those affected by the recall you can contact your local authorised Toyota dealer for more information.
