Ford's innovative new plastic

Apparently Ford took inspiration from Aero chocolate for its new plastic material.

Ford has taken inspiration from the Aero chocolate bar for its new weight-saving technology. Called MuCell, the new system injects plastic parts with gas bubbles to reduce weight without compromising strength or durability.

The new MuCell technology is claimed to allow Ford to make 33 percent more parts per hour. It also helps lower the amount of energy used to make the components.

MuCell technology expert, Carsten Starke, said: "The first time I saw this plastic under the microscope I thought it looked like an Aero chocolate bar. The bubbles in the chocolate change the taste, but in our plastics they save weight and making cars lighter reduces emissions and fuel consumption."

Ford says the MuCell technology will be used first in the Focus, C-Max, S-Max and Mondeo. The Galaxy will also use the system but is the only model in the Ford range with a chocolate-related name to benefit from MuCell.
