Aston Martin’s Lagonda brand will be reinvented, starting with a new SUV in 2021.

What's the news?

Aston Martin has announced that its reinvention of the Lagonda brand will start with an all-electric luxury SUV. It is set to be unveiled in 2021 as the template for all future Lagondas, which will be defined as emissions-free luxury vehicles. Little else has been confirmed at this stage, other than that the Lagonda SUV will feature styling influenced by the dramatic Vision Concept revealed at this year's Geneva Motor Show, as explained by Aston Martin EVP and Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman: "The Lagonda SUV will retain the boldness of the Vision Concept. Lagonda is a luxury brand, but it is also one rooted in technology. It will be like no other SUV to drive, so its looks have to reflect that new reality and to serve as pathfinder to a future in which the most desirable and prestigious automobiles still have a place."

Aston Martin President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Andy Palmer, added: "In reviving one of the most iconic names in motoring we have created a unique opportunity. One that allows us to cast aside an inherited 20th century approach and instead design cars around 21st century demands and desires. The Lagonda SUV is the first of its kind: a spacious, high-performance 4x4 that successfully reconciles a love of technology, luxury and style."

Anything else?

Lagonda was first founded in 1906 and has been owned by Aston Martin since 1947. Before the 2014 Taraf luxury saloon, the Lagonda name was last used in the 1976-1989 Aston Martin Lagonda.
