New BMW 620d Gran Turismo does 4.8l/100km, emits 127g/km CO2 and runs 0-100km/h in 7.9 seconds.

What's the news?

BMW is expanding its 6 Series Gran Turismo range by bringing in a new, four-cylinder entry-level model called the 620d.

Available from July, the turbodiesel unit delivers 190hp at 4,000rpm and 400Nm from 1,750- to 2,500rpm, enough for best eco-stats of 4.8 litres/100km (58.9mpg) and CO2 emissions as low as 127g/km.

To date, this is the first four-cylinder diesel 6 Series BMW has launched and it joins a range made up of a number of straight-six powerplants, as well as a four-cylinder petrol in the 630i.

As standard, the 620d comes with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox, while all the optional upgrades available elsewhere in the 6 Series GT range - such as Adaptive Twin-Axle Air Suspension, Integral Active Steering and the Executive Drive system with Active Roll Stabilisation - will all be offered on the entry-point grand tourer.

Anything else?

BMW hasn't cited a top speed for the 620d but it's pretty punchy for 0-100km/h, taking just 7.9 seconds to reach the benchmark from rest. BMW Ireland hasn't as yet confirmed the 620d's presence in this country but as soon as it does, and we have full prices and specifications, we'll bring you the full rundown on the details.
