Irish pricing and details for the Citroen C4 Cactus announced.

What's the news?

The new Citroen C4 Cactus will have a starting price of €19,995 when in launches across dealers in Ireland on 10 May. It's the second generation of the French brand's compact SUV and has undergone extensive changes adding more comfort while introducing styling that is less divisive, losing the Airbumps on the side in the process. Not only is it replacing the first-gen Cactus, but the new model is also taking over from the conventional Citroen C4 hatchback, positioning the Cactus against competitive C-segment against cars like the Volkswagen Golf.

Irish buyers will be able to choose from three versions of the three-cylinder PureTech petrol engine and a BlueHDi diesel engine. Citroen will also offer the EAT6 automatic transmission with its mid-range petrol engine.

Entry grade 'Touch' models start at €19,995 and will feature 16-inch wheels, 3D effect rear lights, LED daytime running lights, fog lights with cornering functions and Hill Hold Control. Inside, the car gets a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, FM and DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity and a USB socket. Air conditioning, cruise control with a speed limiter function, a multifunction steering wheel that is height and reach adjustable and electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors all feature among the standard specification, too.

The move up to mid-level 'Feel' costs €2,500 extra and nets higher levels of connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also gains 17-inch alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, body-coloured door handles, gloss black headlight surrounds and mirror caps, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera. The cabin gets the Advanced Comfort Seats and leather and chrome touchpoints throughout the car. Automatic lights and wipers also feature in this mid-level spec.

At the top of the range is the 'Flair' version that commands a €2,000 premium over the Feel model. For that extra money, you get to choose from the exterior colour pack that adds contrasting inserts on the sides and front bumper. Safety and convenience tech upgrades come in the form of Active Safety Brake, keyless entry and start, satellite navigation, front parking sensors, speed limit sign recognition and lane departure warning.

All petrol models get a full-sized spare wheel, while the diesel gets a space saver.

Anything else?

One of the headline features of the new C4 Cactus is the Advanced Comfort programme that places a greater emphasis on improving the experience of driving through more supportive and comfortable seats and a new suspension system. Called Progressive Hydraulic Cushions, this new setup is fitted to all models and makes the C4 Cactus adept at gliding over poor road surfaces without impacting on the overall driving experience.
