Rolls-Royce has created another run of 70 limited-edition models - 40 Wraiths and 30 Dawns - as part of the Black Badge series, this time christening its creations 'Adamas'.
Created by the Bespoke Collective of R-R, the two vehicles take inspiration from the first Black Badge Rollers and work on the word 'adamas' - which is linked to strength and, more specifically, diamonds, which the ancient Greeks though was the 'hardest metal. That means these are luxury motors which major on a dark aesthetic.
Chief feature is the Spirit of Ecstasy rendered in 294 layers of aerospace-grade carbon fibre. This takes 68 hours to produce and it has a weave angle of precisely 25 degrees - and it's the first time the Spirit has been finished in carbon. She also stands on a titanium base embossed with the words 'Black Badge Adamas' and also featuring the infinity logo, and below the grille surround is darkened while black grille vanes are added.
The exterior colour schemes also hark back to the original Black Badge creations, as those cars has a Mandarin Orange (Dawn) and Cobalto Blue (Wraith) interiors. So both of those hues have been darkened for the Adamas twins, with the Dawn in Aphrodite Red over Black and the Wraith in Morpheus Blue over Black; that makes these the first two-tone Black Badge cars. Of course, this is Rolls-Royce Bespoke and so if you want the Dawn in Morpheus or the Wraith in Aphrodite, that can be accommodated.
Moving within, we begin to pick up the diamond motif - as 88 laboratory-grown diamonds are encrusted on the face of the clock in the shape of the Black Badge infinity symbol, with the back-plate made of carbon fibre. Up above, the headliner of the fixed-roof Wraith Adamas features 1,340 individual fibre-optic lights, configured in the shape of carbon's molecular structure as it becomes a diamond.
Elsewhere, there's pearlescent-effect leather that echoes the chosen exterior hue, a two-tone steering wheel and woven black leather on the door cards and transmission tunnel, while all the trim is made of a dark, brushed metal fascia. And, for the final touch, the illuminated sill plates read either 'Black Badge Wraith Adamas - One of Forty' or 'Black Badge Dawn Adamas - One of Thirty'.
